How much recoil does a muzzle brake reduce?

Sources report a reduction in weapon recoil of about 50%. Muzzle brakes do this by redirecting the gasses that are created when the bullet is fired away to the sides. This disperses the force of the recoil over a larger area, which makes it less forceful.
