How to reduce trigger pull on S&W M&P?

If you’re finding the trigger pull on your Smith & Wesson M&P to be too much, there are a few things you can do about it.

One is to adjust the trigger stop screws so that the trigger travel is shortened. This can be done by trial and error, or you can use a tool like the Wheeler Engineering FAT wrench to adjust more accurately.

Another option is to purchase a new trigger connector kit, which will also shorten the travel distance of the trigger.

Finally, some people have had success with polishing the contact surfaces of the trigger and striker.

If any of these methods don’t work for you, or if you’re not comfortable with DIY modifications, it’s always best to consult a gunsmith.

Smith & Wesson M&P’s have a heavy trigger pull, but there are ways to reduce it.

One is to adjust the trigger stop, which will shorten the distance that the trigger has to travel before it releases the striker.

You could also install a lighter spring kit, which would in turn reduce the amount of pressure needed to fire the gun.

Last but not least, you may change the striker tension to regulate how much force is required to cock the striker and fire the weapon.

All of these adjustments should be made by a qualified gunsmith.

There are a few things that you can do to reduce the amount of force required to pull the trigger on a Smith & Wesson M&P:

  1. Make sure that you are using a firm grip on the gun and are squeezing it tightly. A loose grip will result in more movement when you pull the trigger, requiring more force to fire the gun.
  2. Check that your trigger finger is in the correct position. The trigger finger should be resting on the side of the gun barrel, not inside the trigger guard. If your finger is inside the trigger guard, it will move forward when you pull the trigger and increase how much force is required.
  3. Practice pulling the trigger slowly and smoothly. A jerky motion will require more force to fire the gun.
  4. Clean and lubricate your gun regularly. A build-up of dirt and grime can make it harder to pull the trigger.
  5. Have a gunsmith check the trigger mechanism if you are still having difficulty. There may be an issue with the gun that is causing it to require more force than normal to fire.

  • Use a lighter spring in the trigger return mechanism
  • Reduce the length of travel for the sear release lever
  • Install an aftermarket competition weight hammer
