Types of 22 WMR Ammo 👁‍🗨

🚀 .22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) ammunition is a popular cartridge for rifles and handguns. There are several types available on the market, including:

  • ⚡️ Full Metal Jacket (FMJ)

typically used for target shooting and plinking. ◾️ They have a metal jacket that covers the lead core, which helps them maintain their shape and penetrate targets more effectively.

  • ⚡️ Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP)

have a hollow point in the center of the bullet that expands upon impact, causing more damage to the target. ◾️ They are commonly used for hunting and self-defense.

  • ⚡️ Soft Point (SP)

have a lead core that is partially exposed by the jacket, which allows for controlled expansion upon impact. ◾️ They are often used for hunting small game.

  • ⚡️ Shotshell

designed to shoot small pellets rather than a solid bullet. ◾️ They are typically used for hunting birds and small game at close range.

  • ⚡️ V-MAX

have a polymer tip that increases their ballistic coefficient, which improves accuracy and trajectory. ◾️ They are often used for varmint hunting and pest control.

  • ⚡️ Subsonic

designed to be quieter than standard rounds and are often used for target shooting and plinking. ◾️ They have a lower velocity, which reduces the noise created by the sonic boom of the bullet.

⚠️ It’s important to note that not all manufacturers produce every type of .22 WMR ammunition. 💡 Additionally, different brands may have variations in bullet weight, velocity, and other specifications.

As an avid fan of .22 mag, I have a strong preference for its impressive penetrating power, which has been a longstanding attraction for me. This caliber is capable of penetrating bone and even skulls and has proven to be extremely effective in immobilizing larger animals with a single shot. Thanx for the post

I have recently acquired a .22 long rifle and I am curious if it is possible to fire a .22 WMR using it.

It is not recommended to fire a .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR) cartridge in a firearm chambered for a .22 Long Rifle (LR) because they have different dimensions and pressures. The .22 WMR has a longer and wider case and generates higher chamber pressures than the .22 LR.

🛑 Using a .22 WMR cartridge in a firearm chambered for .22 LR could cause serious damage to the firearm, including damage to the chamber, barrel, or firing pin. In addition, it could also pose a serious risk of injury to the shooter and bystanders.

⚠️ Always make sure to use the correct ammunition for your firearm and consult the owner’s manual or a qualified gunsmith if you have any doubts or questions.

For dealing with rats beneath corn cribs and barn pigeons without causing any harm to the structures, we found Shotshell CCI to be very effective. This ammunition also works well for taking down squirrels at short distances. Additionally, we have observed that the damage to the metal roofing and siding is comparatively lower with this ammunition than with pellet rifles and BB guns that we previously used.

I completely agree! Shotshell CCI is highly effective. In fact, I used to keep my Stainless .357 Ruger Security Six loaded with them whenever I was on my boat. These rounds proved to be incredibly useful for taking down Cotton Mouth or Rattler snakes with ease.

I’m in. Looks to me like the Shotshell ammunition is a perfect fit for its intended purpose. When I used to live in town, I often relied on the 22lr rounds in a small revolver for taking care of snakes. They proved to be highly effective while also avoiding any damage to nearby objects. Moreover, their low noise level ensured that my neighbors didn’t mistake the shots for something alarming. However, since moving to the country, I now carry a 410 shotgun in my truck for added range, which is particularly helpful given my slower pace. Nonetheless, I firmly believe that these shot shells are excellent for certain situations and those who criticize them may not fully understand their intended use.

My go-to ammunition for shooting is the Hornady V-Max, which I typically use with my trusty CZ 452 Varmint rifle. This round is hands down my favorite, providing a top-notch shooting experience.

Without a doubt, my favorite ammunition for my Kel Tec CMR-30 rifle is the Speer Gold Dot 22wmag rounds. I always keep a full magazine of 30 of these rounds at home, just in case. I have often wondered how these rounds would perform when fired from the CMR-30’s 16-inch barrel. But after extensive testing, I can confidently say that these are hands down the best hollow point cartridges for the 22 WMR round!

Guys, I am the proud owner of a Marlin 782 rifle, and I have always found the Winchester SPR X ammunition to be extremely reliable and accurate. When I used to hunt groundhogs in the past, I relied heavily on this ammunition to do the job. Despite its small size, this round inflicts significant damage with exceptional precision. Overall, I can confidently say that this is an excellent hunting round that never fails to impress me!

I got 1000rds through my pmr30 without experiencing any failures, thanks to the use of CCI Maxi ammunition. Additionally, I make it a point to pack the magazine every time I load 5 rounds, ensuring that the firearm remains in optimal working condition.

I also frequently use these rounds for shooting, and I have been able to achieve sub-one-inch groups at 100 yards using my modified Ruger 96m rifle. By modified, I mean that I have free-floated the barrel with no barrel ring and also performed a trigger job. These rounds have proven to be effective on foxes, and I have taken down quite a few with ease. Upon impact, they expand nicely and often exit the animal with a dime-sized hole. Although some rounds have broken up after hitting bone, the core still passes through. When it comes to my other go-to round, I prefer the Winchester 40-grain hollow point, which is also highly accurate and deadly on animals ranging from foxes to coyotes.

Hey, just would like to know whether 22 WMR is stronger than 22LR. Great review

Yes, the .22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) cartridge is generally considered to be more powerful than the .22 LR (Long Rifle) cartridge.

🔵 The .22 WMR cartridge has a larger case and uses a longer, heavier bullet than the .22 LR cartridge. This results in higher velocity and more energy on impact.

🔵The .22 WMR cartridge can reach velocities of up to 2,300 feet per second and deliver up to 324 foot-pounds of energy, while the .22 LR cartridge typically has velocities of around 1,200 to 1,300 feet per second and delivers up to 140 foot-pounds of energy.

In my experience, the Speer JHP round is incredibly deadly. However, I believe that shot placement is crucial. One thing that ballistic gel tests may not reveal is the shattering impact of a JHP when it hits a bone. While I understand that larger calibers may have more stopping power, I personally prefer the .22 WMR due to its ability to chamber a larger amount of ammo and its cost-effectiveness. I carry a Kel Tec PMR30 daily and have never encountered a jam when using this ammo.
