I am searching for advice on the right ammo to use with my .308, and I’m thinking about starting hand-loading. It appears that 168gr is favored according to what I have read. Can you suggest grains, bullet types, powders, and so forth? Also, are there any factory-loaded alternatives that you’d recommend? My rifle of choice is an LMTMWS 16” 1:10 barrel.

For the sweetheart load, use 42.2gr Varget or 4064 under a 168gr bullet – what many consider to be the perfect pairing for their beloved 168gr FGMM/M852!

As a beginner, I’m making sure to stay on the lower-pressure side in case of any errors. Therefore, I use 40.2gr of IMR 4064 and 168gr BTHP for added safety precautions.

During our workshops, the 155gr Sierra TMKs & Hornady BTHP have consistently yielded positive results. As for factories, American Gunner is an exceptional and cost-effective source of accurate ammunition.

Hey, just would like to share some experiences with you. My go-to long-range hand load is composed of the 178gr ELD-X bullet, 43.3gr Varget powder, Lapua case, and CCI benchrest primer for ignition. When I shoot out of my 20” barrel with an Ultra7 suppressor attached to it, this mix translates into a velocity of 2650fps; when shot from a braked barrel instead – just around 2615 fps. Living at 5000ft elevation gives me 1050 yards maximum range using this load combination which should be roughly 900y if you are located near sea level!

Greetings! I love shooting my AR-10 and 308 Garand, however, the cost of ammunition is preventing me from visiting the range as often as I would like. To become proficient with these rifles and compete in local 3 gun divisions, I need to find a reliable source for cheap bulk ammo. Therefore, I am asking you all for recommendations on where to buy affordable bulk ammo suitable for use in these firearms.
After dabbling for some time with my dad’s old reloading equipment, I realized that it wasn’t a hobby fit for me. Unfortunately, due to a recent relocation and lack of space in my new house, I no longer possess the room or resources necessary to set up a reloading bench. Nonetheless, while accuracy is important in all shooting endeavors; most of the mine consists of casual plinking from 25-50 yards away or busting metal plates at 200 yards – anything other than shotguns groups should suffice! Thanks.

The best bet is to give up heavy metal and switch to .223. Is cheaper in bulk. 308/ heavy metal is an expensive game to play.

🔔 The most popular 308 caliber bullets used for bear hunting include hollow point or soft point designs due to their superior expansion capabilities – particularly if you need to penetrate thick hide or heavy bones.

As a novice with rifle ammunition, I am the proud recipient of my father’s Savage Axis in 308. When it comes to hunting whitetail and black bear, what is your preferred choice of ammo?
Further, if one day I wanted to hunt elk would that same ammunition suffice, or should there be an entirely separate load for this particular game?

Try out a variety of weights. Buy multiple options in 150, 165-168, and 180-grain packs so you can determine which works best for your needs – then stock up!

To uncover the ammunition that my gun best liked, I invested in a few types and tested them out. When it came down to it, mine favored Hornady Superformance SST 150-grain bullets for whitetail deer hunting; whereas my wife was keener on Norma Soft Point 150-grain rounds. However, when taking into consideration larger animals like bears – this is where opinions begin to differ: some claim that SST doesn’t penetrate enough for large game hunts while others have had success with Eld-M dropping elk. All things considered though, the placement of your shot remains key no matter what type you choose!

I’ve been using 308 Winchester for 2 years, but couldn’t understand whether are they reloadable or not. and if yes, how can I do this?

1️⃣ The answer to this question depends on the type of 308 ammunition you purchase.
🔵 If you buy factory-made ammo, it is likely designed to be fired once and then discarded.
🔵 However, if you choose brass-cased rounds, many shooters reload these cartridges multiple times.

2️⃣ Reloading requires a few specific tools including:
✔️ components for the cartridge;
✔️ a press such as a single stage or turret press;
✔️ dies;
✔️ case trimming tools.
It also requires knowledge of proper reloading techniques that can only come from practice and experience. Even with all these factors taken into consideration, reloading 308 ammo can still be cost-effective compared to purchasing brand-new rounds each time.

⚠️ With that said, always double-check your local regulations.

My .308 caliber rifle has been a great hunting companion, enabling me to take down elk, mule deer, and whitetail with ease. I’ve used it for 165-grain fusions, 165-grain Berger VLDs, and 130-grain Barnes rounds; as well as 175-grain Eld X bullets or 150-grain Partitions and Core Lokt ammo – all allowing successful kills even at longer distances.
