Types of 32 H&R Magnum Ammo 💡

🔎 Here are some of the most common types:

🔰 Full Metal Jacket (FMJ)

  • ⇢ has a lead core with a copper or brass jacket that completely encases the bullet. FMJ ammo is designed for target shooting and practice, as it has limited stopping power and is less likely to expand upon impact.
🔰 Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP)

  • ⇢ has a lead core with a copper or brass jacket that has a hollow point in the center. Upon impact, the bullet expands, creating a larger wound channel and increasing stopping power. JHP ammo is a popular choice for personal defense and hunting small game.
🔰 Lead Round Nose (LRN)

  • ⇢ has a lead core with a rounded tip. LRN ammo is an older design that is primarily used for target shooting and plinking.
🔰 Wadcutter

  • ⇢ has a flat-fronted bullet that is designed to punch clean holes in paper targets. Wadcutter ammo is not suitable for hunting or personal defense.
🔰 Specialty Ammo

  • ⇢ some manufacturers offer specialty ammo for the .32 H&R Magnum, such as frangible ammo or subsonic ammo. Frangible ammo is designed to break apart upon impact, reducing the risk of ricochets, while subsonic ammo travels at a slower velocity for reduced noise and recoil.

I saw some posts that claim the Nagant revolver can fire various types of 32-caliber cartridges. Personally, I have had success using 32 H&R Mag rounds in my Nagant revolver. These rounds are reported to be more similar to the original Russian load than the PPU 7.62 and have a noticeably stronger performance. Additionally, the accuracy is impressive and there have been no indications of excessive pressure during use.

It is possible that the 32 H&R Mag can be utilized in a .327 Fed mag?

No, the .32 H&R Magnum cartridge is not interchangeable with the .327 Federal Magnum cartridge. Although the .327 Federal Magnum is based on the .32 H&R Magnum case, it is a slightly longer cartridge, with a different chamber pressure and bullet diameter.

📢 Attempting to fire a .32 H&R Magnum cartridge in a .327 Federal Magnum chamber could result in dangerous overpressure and potentially catastrophic failure of the firearm. It is essential always to use the correct ammunition for your firearm, as specified by the manufacturer.

I often refer to my .32 H&R Magnum revolvers as my “reloadable .22” due to the fact that I primarily load them with light 78gr RN bullets that reach velocities comparable to those of .22LR (I have verified this using a chronograph). The recoil is quite similar to that of a .22LR, meaning that if you can handle a .22, you should be able to handle the .32 as well. In terms of carry, I always load what I shoot and shoot what I load. It’s as simple as that.

I have fired a .32 H&R Magnum from my revolver without experiencing any apparent negative consequences. And I have noticed that is the most precise ammunition in my revolver.

Although I have never personally owned a firearm in this caliber, a close friend of mine did and spoke highly of it as a great little round. I am now considering purchasing one for myself as well.

I am curious if anyone has a recommendation for the most effective self-defense ammunition to use in an H&R Magnum snub, as I have recently acquired an S&W Model 431pd and intend to carry it.

One of my colleagues possesses a pair of Ruger firearms chambered in 32 H&R Magnum (they to have the ammo from federal), which he and his wife both use for personal carry. They both appear to be quite fond of this caliber.

is 32 h r magnum ammo suitable, either as a backup piece or the ammo for the wife who is sensitive to recoil?

💣 The .32 H&R Magnum is a small cartridge that was designed for self-defense purposes. It offers less recoil than larger caliber cartridges, which may make it more suitable for individuals who are sensitive to recoil. However, it is important to note that the effectiveness of the cartridge for self-defense purposes may be limited compared to larger caliber cartridges.

🔔 As a backup piece or for someone who is sensitive to recoil, the .32 H&R Magnum may be a viable option. However, it is important to consider the specific firearm being used, as well as the individual’s ability to handle the firearm and accurately shoot the cartridge.

After trying out the American Eagle .327 FM 100 grain jsp in my Ruger SP101 3-inch barrel, I found the recoil to be a bit too much for my liking. Although I purchased them mainly for the brass, I plan to reduce the power of my .327 reloads to make them more manageable. To achieve this, I will be testing out some .32 H&R Magnum loads. I did purchase a box of Hornady Critical Defense .32 H&R, which features an 85-grain FTX Bullet. Generally, Hornady Critical Defense and Buffalo Bore are both highly regarded brands. Additionally, I have taken notice of the Georgia Arms .32 H&R Magnum loading, which reportedly reaches 1100 FPS. From the experiences of my friends it seems like a promising option to me.

My little .32 H&R Magnum 78gr lead bullets are zipping out at ~1100fps. Nuff to get the job done for the intended use.
