Types 💡

📢 There are several types of 7mm-08 Rem ammo available on the market, which can be broadly classified based on their bullet type and weight. 🔎 Some of the common types are:

🔰 Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) ⇨ are typically used for target shooting and practice, as they have a smooth surface and can penetrate through the target without expanding.
🔰 Soft Point (SP) ⇨ have a soft lead core and a partial metal jacket, which helps them expand on impact and transfer energy to the target. They are commonly used for hunting medium-sized games.
🔰 Hollow Point (HP) ⇨ have a hollow cavity at the tip, which causes them to expand rapidly on impact and create a larger wound channel. They are commonly used for hunting larger games and for self-defense.
🔰 Ballistic Tip (BT) ⇨ have a polymer tip that helps them maintain their shape during flight and improve their ballistic coefficient. They are commonly used for hunting and long-range shooting.
🔰 Boat Tail (BT) ⇨ have a tapered base that reduces drag and improves their long-range accuracy. They are commonly used for target shooting and competition.
🔰 V-Max ⇨ have a polymer tip and a hollow cavity, which helps them expand rapidly on impact and create a larger wound channel. They are commonly used for hunting and varmint control.
🔰 Lead-Free ⇨ are made from non-toxic materials like copper and are designed to comply with environmental regulations. They are commonly used for hunting in areas where lead ammunition is prohibited.

For the past 12 years, I have enjoyed using this caliber for shooting and have had great success with it. My daughters have also used it to hunt six whitetail deer, all of which were taken down within a short distance of 5 yards.

Two years ago, I purchased a 7-08 rifle for my son, and it has proven to be a great choice. He has successfully hunted six whitetail deer using 120 gr. Hornaday SST bullets and all of them were taken down immediately upon impact. The bullets are incredibly effective, completely obliterating the front shoulders and everything in the chest cavity.

When my kids used to shoot 7mm-08 rifles, I found myself constantly wanting to use them too. The cartridge proved to be both effective and enjoyable to shoot, as they were able to successfully hunt a few blacktails and even a hog with it. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for hunting.

Although I don’t personally own a 7mm-08 rifle, I’ve had the opportunity to shoot them at the range and have been impressed with their performance. In particular, I’ve noticed that they seem to be an excellent choice for deer hunting, especially when paired with Norma whitetail ammo. I’m actually considering purchasing one for myself based on my positive experiences with it.

In my opinion, the 7mm-08 is undeniably one of the best cartridges ever created. One of its biggest advantages is its use of short action, which makes it even more appealing to me. Additionally, it boasts a remarkably flat trajectory, produces minimal recoil, offers a wide range of bullet weights suitable for most hunting scenarios, remains stable even in windy conditions, and is widely available.

For the past 30 years, I’ve relied solely on the 7mm-08 for my medium-game hunting needs. The only scenario where I would consider switching to a significantly more powerful round and rifle is if I were to hunt brown bears or larger elk. That being said, I’ve never had the opportunity to use my 7mm-08 on an elk, but I believe that with the right bullet and at an appropriate range, it would be a trustworthy option for elk hunting.

Hey, everyone! What is the effective range of the ammo?

In 1990, I purchased a Remington 700 BDL with a 22″ barrel chambered in 7mm-08. I added a high-quality 3-9X Leupold scope and headed to the range to sight it in. The accuracy of the first four shots was incredibly impressive, as each bullet hole touched the previous one, despite not being in the bullseye. After adjusting the sights and using Remington factory 140gr loads, the rifle was dead-on accurate at 150 yards.

My wife has successfully hunted elk and whitetails using her Browning X bolt Micro, loaded with 140 gr. Federal Premium Nosler Partitions.
