How to reload Winchester Brass? 🤔

Reloading Winchester Brass involves several steps, which include:

1️⃣ Cleaning: Before reloading, the brass casings should be cleaned thoroughly to remove any dirt, debris, or residue left behind from previous firings. This can be done using a tumbler or ultrasonic cleaner.
2️⃣ Inspecting: After cleaning, inspect each casing for any signs of damage, such as cracks or splits, and discard any that are not in good condition.
3️⃣ Resizing: The casings may need to be resized using a resizing die to ensure that they fit the chamber of the firearm properly.
4️⃣ De-priming: The old primer needs to be removed from the casing using a de-priming die.
5️⃣ Priming: Once the casings are resized and cleaned, a new primer needs to be inserted into the primer pocket using a priming tool.
6️⃣ Powder charging: The appropriate amount of gunpowder is then measured and charged into the casing.
7️⃣ Bullet seating:  Finally, a bullet is seated into the casing using a bullet seating die, and the finished cartridge is crimped to hold the bullet in place.

⚠️ It is important to follow proper reloading techniques and safety guidelines when reloading ammunition, as incorrect reloading can result in dangerous malfunctions or even accidents.

FAQ 🤔

Is 7.62 x51 brass the same as 308?
❌ No, 7.62 x51 brass is not the same as 308 brass. The two calibers use different-sized bullets and have different maximum pressures. 🔔 Winchester brass is available in both 7.62 x51 and 308 versions.
How many times can brass be reloaded?
🔐 Winchester brass can be reloaded up to five times. After that, the brass begins to weaken and is more likely to break during firing.
Is the 308 a good hunting round?
✅ Yes, the .308 Winchester is considered a good hunting round by many hunters and shooting enthusiasts.

  • 📌 It is a popular and versatile cartridge that is used for hunting a wide range of game, including deer, elk, moose, and bear. It is known for its accuracy, flat trajectory, and relatively low recoil, which make it a good choice for medium to large game at moderate ranges.
Is a 308 overkill a deer?
⚠️ Whether or not a .308 Winchester is overkill for deer hunting depends on a few factors such as the distance of the shot, the size and weight of the deer, and the hunter’s skill level.

  • At appropriate ranges and with proper shot placement, it is capable of taking down deer quickly and humanely.
  • 🛑 However, if a hunter takes a shot at a deer at an excessive distance or fails to place the shot properly, it could cause unnecessary damage to the animal.

📣 Additionally, if a hunter is inexperienced or not confident in their shooting ability, they may be better off using a less powerful cartridge to avoid injuring the animal.

How do you clean Winchester brass?
🔎 Cleaning Winchester brass is a fairly simple process that involves a few basic steps:

  1. 🔹 Remove the spent primer from the brass using a decapping tool.
  2. 🔹 Inspect the brass for any signs of damage or deformities that may affect the performance of the cartridge.
  3. 🔹 Tumble the brass in a brass cleaner or tumbler filled with cleaning media, such as walnut or corn cob media. This will remove any dirt, debris, or oxidation from the brass.
  4. 🔹 After tumbling, separate the brass from the media and inspect it again for any remaining debris or discoloration.
  5. 🔹 If there are any remaining stains or discoloration, the brass can be polished using a brass polish or cleaner, such as Brasso or Flitz.
  6. 🔹 Rinse the brass thoroughly with water to remove any cleaning agents or residue.
  7. 🔹 Dry the brass completely using a brass dryer or by laying it out on a towel to air dry.

💡 It is important to note that cleaning and reusing brass can save money and reduce waste, but it is important to inspect each piece of brass carefully before reloading to ensure safety and reliability.

This is excellent ammunition for the UZI 9mm firearm! It’s the most precise ammunition I’ve come across so far. With an 18-inch lined barrel, it can reach a velocity of 1,410 feet per second.

Can the S&W M&P 2.0 9mm compact with a 4-inch barrel handle NATO or +P ammunition? I’ve already fired around 200 to 300 rounds of Winchester white box 124-grain NATO ammunition during range practice, but I’m uncertain if it’s suitable for my firearm.

🔔 Yes, the S&W M&P 2.0 9mm compact with a 4-inch barrel is generally rated to handle NATO or +P rounds, 🛑 but it’s always a good idea to check your specific firearm’s owner’s manual or consult with a gunsmith or the manufacturer to confirm.

I utilize Winchester brass and it functions extremely well. Based on my experience, it has a longer case life compared to Remington, Federal, Hornady, or PPU brass. I usually sort it only by weight and that’s all that’s necessary.

I typically utilize readily available Winchester and Remington brass, which functions seamlessly for my needs. The casing lasts quite well unless you surpass the recommended safe pressure limit. I’ve consistently achieved excellent accuracy, although I don’t compete in shooting events. Any group less than 1 inch is fantastic, with some even less than 1/2 inch.

I conducted a velocity test on 62-grain full metal jacket ammunition, and the results were astonishing. Typically, I avoid using Winchester ammunition, but I think I’ll keep some of this on hand from now on.

I employ win deer season in my 300 WSM and have no grievances whatsoever. However, it does demand more thorough sorting and preparation in contrast to other brands such as ADG or Lapua. Nevertheless, the cost is reasonable, and I opted to purchase 500 pieces with the same headstamp to have enough for my barrel’s lifetime. I resize, trim, and decrease the necks to achieve uniform thickness. I’ve discovered that it’s perfectly suitable for hunting purposes.

Is this ammo too hot to shoot for range ammo from a g19?

Shannon Smith
Editor
Reply to  Bustling Pastriss

✅ Winchester brass is just the cartridge case used for ammunition and is not inherently too hot to shoot in a Glock 19.

⚠️ If you are using commercially produced Winchester ammunition in your Glock 19, as long as it is factory loaded to SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) specifications for 9mm Luger, it should be safe to shoot in your firearm. However, it’s always a good idea to consult your firearm manual or a knowledgeable gunsmith if you have any concerns about the safety of a particular type of ammunition in your firearm.

My experience with this brass has been positive, but I make sure to conduct testing and develop loads based on the brass’s manufacturer. In a batch of 100, about 5 pieces are usually unsuitable for use. However, I continue to utilize it regularly until I replace it with Lapua brass.
