FAQ ❓

How good is 10mm Auto?

⚡ One of the main selling points of the 10mm is its versatility. It can be loaded to perform anywhere from light-recoiling target loads to high-powered self-defence rounds. The ability to tailor the cartridge to fit different applications has made it a popular choice among hunters and those who carry it for personal protection.

⚡ In terms of ballistics, the 10mm offers performance similar to that of the .357 Magnum. It typically fires a heavier bullet at a higher velocity than the .45 ACP, which results in greater energy transfer and deeper penetration. When compared to the 9mm, the 10mm offers significantly more stopping power while still being able to hold more rounds in a magazine.

What makes the 10mm so powerful?

The 10mm ammunition is popular for its power and effectiveness. It has a larger bullet diameter than the popular 9mm round, which results in increased stopping power. The 10mm ammo was originally designed for the FBI, which needed a more potent cartridge for their agents. The round was created to improve the performance of the 9mm Luger while utilizing the same size frame of guns.

🔋 The bullets used in 10mm rounds can travel at a high velocity of over 1,200 feet per second depending on the ammo manufacturer. This results in greater kinetic energy upon impact, allowing the bullets to penetrate and expand upon impact, which is essential in stopping an attacker. Moreover, the 10mm cartridges can deliver an impressive amount of force with a muzzle energy of up to 750 ft lbs.

🔋 Another attribute that contributes to the 10mm’s compact power is its case capacity. The cartridge’s case is long, allowing for the powder to be loaded more generously than many other pistol cartridges. This generous powder load results in the 10mm ammo’s higher energy levels and further enhances it’s stopping power compared to other calibres.

Does 10mm have more recoil than 40?

The short answer is yes, the 10mm has more recoil than the .40.

📎 The 10mm cartridge is known for its strong recoil due to its powerful ballistics. It typically fires a heavier bullet than the .40 and at a higher velocity, resulting in more felt recoil. On the other hand, the .40 S&W was created as a lower recoiling alternative to the 10mm while still maintaining a similar bullet weight.

⭕ However, it’s worth noting that recoil is subjective and can vary depending on the gun, grip, and shooter. Some people may not notice a significant difference in recoil between the two calibres, while others may feel uncomfortable shooting the 10mm. It’s important to practice good shooting techniques and to use a gun that feels comfortable and manageable for you.

What are the different types of 10mm ammo?

📌 1. Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) – This ammo has a lead core wrapped with a copper or brass material to prevent it from shedding its lead during firing. FMJs are ideal for training and target shooting as they offer maximum penetration and accuracy.

📌 2. Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) – JHPs are ideal for personal defence and hunting, thanks to their hollowed tip design that expands upon contact, thus creating a larger wound cavity.

📌 3. Truncated Cone Full Metal Jacket (TCFMJ) – Also known as Flat Nose Full Metal Jacket (FNFMJ), this ammo features a flat bullet nose that provides a larger impact surface for better terminal ballistics. TCFMJs are suitable for self-defence and range training.

What is 10mm ammo used for?

It is also known as the 10x25mm is a semi-automatic pistol cartridge primarily used by law enforcement and military personnel. It is capable of penetrating body armour at close range and has impressive stopping power.

🎯 It is often used in hunting, target shooting and self-defence situations due to its accuracy and high velocity.

🎯 It can also be used effectively for longer-range shooting when loaded with heavier bullets. Additionally, it features less recoil than other handgun calibres for improved shooter comfort and control during sustained fire.

Conclusion 😉

The Best 10mm Ammo is out there, you just need to know where to find it. In this article, we have covered some of the best 10mm ammo on the market today. In my opinion, 10mm is one of the best calibers available. Its versatility allows me to shoot it with the same power as a .40 caliber or even as powerful as a .41 magnum round. The development of the 10mm cartridge was initiated after the Miami shootout, where law enforcement officers needed a round that could penetrate hard barriers. However, the power of the 10mm posed challenges in developing pistols that could withstand the recoil and smaller officers struggled to control it. As a result, a lower-reduced loading was developed, and later the .40 S&W was created by shortening the 10mm case. Despite this, with the current range of loads available, why would anyone limit themselves to the .40 S&W when the 10mm can be loaded to the same performance level and even offer the option to run a full power 220gr bullet at 1200fps? It’s like having a .357 magnum with the added ability to shoot .38 special rounds.

Many ammo companies today are loading 10mm cartridges with less power, similar to that of .40 caliber rounds. However, some companies like Underwood and Buffalo Bore still load 10mm cartridges with the intended power. While it may not be the ideal choice for everyday carry self-defense, 10mm cartridges loaded with proper power ammunition excel as a woods gun. This is especially true for self-defense against large animals or for hunting purposes. Therefore, 10mm loaded with high-powered ammunition from companies like Underwood would be a great option for these specific scenarios.

Hello. What does more damage a 10mm or 45?

Zack Buck

In general, a 10mm bullet can cause more damage than a .45 bullet due to its velocity and energy.

🟨 The 10mm ammo typically has a higher velocity, which means it can travel through the air at a faster rate than the .45 ammo. This increased velocity results in the 10mm bullet hitting the target with more force, causing greater damage upon impact.

🟨 In addition to velocity, the 10mm ammo also has a higher energy level than the .45 ammo. Energy is a measure of the ammunition’s ability to cause damage upon impact. The 10mm ammo has a higher energy level due to its heavier grain weight and higher velocity, making it more effective at stopping a threat than the .45 ammo.

🟨 It’s also worth noting that the 10mm ammo has greater accuracy and greater effective range than the .45 ammo. This makes it a more versatile round for a range of applications, from self-defence to hunting.

As a woodlands management business owner, I am often in potential contact with dangerous animals such as bears, boars, wolves, and even stray dogs. To protect myself, I switched from a 3″ .44 magnum to a G29 10mm a few years ago. Initially, I intended to make the 10mm your dedicated EDC. However, I currently carry a compact .45 ACP or a full-size .40 caliber firearm for everyday carry, even when I am in the woods.

I absolutely love 10mm because it’s such a versatile firearm. I can use the “weaker” loads when I’m in urban environments, but I can quickly switch to “atomic” loads when I’m out in the woods or hunting. This is what makes it perfect for SHTF scenarios. I have a range of rounds to choose from, and I can tailor the firepower to the situation at hand. I can use rounds that perform like a .40 caliber, but I also have the option to use rounds that can shatter a bear’s bones, which is ideal for me since I’m also a bow hunter. Overall, the 10mm is the perfect all-around gun for me.
