Ballistic performance 💥
😉 The 7mm Remington Magnum is a popular centerfire rifle cartridge that is designed for hunting, long-range shooting, and target shooting.
🎯 It offers great accuracy, good velocity, and excellent terminal performance on medium-sized to large games. When using the right ammunition, it can reach velocities of up to 3,000 feet per second with 1,500 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle.
🔍 When selecting the ammo for your specific needs, there are some important factors to consider such as bullet weight and construction material.
🔶 Heavier bullets are better for hunting due to their penetration potential and deeper wound cavities, while lighter bullets are preferred for target shooting since they tend to be more accurate with less recoil.
🔶 The construction material of the bullet can also make a difference in terms of performance. For instance, bonded core or monolithic solid bullets typically offer better weight retention and expansion than standard copper-jacketed projectiles.

⚙️Reloading⚙️
🤠 It can be a great way to save money while still getting the performance and accuracy you need. However, it’s important to understand the process before diving in. Here are some tips:
- ➡️ Gathering all of your supplies, including a set of dies appropriate for the type of 7mm Rem Magnum ammo you’re reloading, powder measure, primers, and cases. Make sure that everything is in good condition before beginning.
- ➡️Start by cleaning and lubricating the cases so that they can handle being loaded and fired without getting stuck in the chamber of your gun.
- ➡️ Measure out the powder for each case using a powder measure and weigh it to ensure it’s accurate. Do this slowly, as adding too much or too little powder can be dangerous.
- ➡️ Once you’ve added the correct amount of powder, add a primer to each case with a primer seater tool before seating them firmly into the pocket of each case with an arbor press or other appropriate tool.
- ➡️ Make sure the primers are seated fully and evenly to avoid misfires downrange.
- ➡️ Use sizing dies and seating dies to properly shape and seat the bullets into each case. Make sure that your seating depth is consistent, as this can affect accuracy.
👍 By following these steps, you should have no problems reloading 7mm Rem Magnum ammo safely and accurately at home.
FAQ 🤔
Conclusion 😊
7mm Rem Magnum Ammo is great for hunting and target practice. It is important to choose the right ammo for your rifle and in this buyer’s guide, we’ve reviewed the most popular ones to help you make an informed decision about choosing the best ammunition for your needs. Thanks for reading! 🔥😎
As someone who has already tested the Hornady American Whitetail 139g 7mm ammunition, I must say that I was quite impressed with its accuracy within the range of 50 to 100 yards. However, due to my financial limitations, this was the only ammunition option I could afford and experiment with, thereby restricting my ability to explore other alternatives. I’m now curious to know what the ultimate 7mm ammunition is and what grain weight would be most suitable.
Last year, I successfully took down a buck using 162-grain Hornady SST ammunition. It was so effective that the deer dropped instantly. Based on my experience, the ammunition you purchased should work perfectly fine.
In my opinion, there is no universally “best” factory ammunition for all rifles. The ideal combination depends on each rifle’s unique characteristics. Factors like the barrel length and individual bore diameter can significantly impact ammunition performance. Therefore, when selecting ammunition, it’s crucial to consider your rifle’s twist rate and then opt for a bullet that can be stabilized by that twist rate.
As someone who has experience with hunting, I believe that 139-140gr bullets are typically adequate for deer. If the ammunition performs well and is reasonably priced, it’s unlikely that the deer will notice any difference. However, if you plan on hunting elk, it might be worth considering a 150-160gr bullet, although the same 140gr bullet could also do the job. It’s essential to recognize that the best ammunition for my gun may not be the best for someone else’s.
I hand load for all the firearms I shoot and I even cast and powder coat my bullets. I also enjoy building black powder guns. I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years now, but I wouldn’t recommend starting right now as it’s not a great time due to the current shortages. However, there’s never a perfect time to start, except maybe 20 years ago. If you’re interested in learning, you could purchase a single-stage kit and get started. If you’re not shooting your 7Mag more than 100 shots per year, it’s probably more cost-effective to just buy ammo when you find it on sale.
I am in search of a good 7mm Rem Mag for my elk hunting rifle. While I plan on handloading, I still need a consistent load to practice with at long ranges. Ideally, I would prefer to stick with just one brand that offers a high BC bullet capable of taking down an elk.
I have personally loaded around 300 rounds of the 162 Grain Super Shock Tip using Nosler brass, IMR 4955 powder, and CCI primers, and have had great results. Last hunting season, my brother used this load to take down an 8-point whitetail at 400 yards. If you’re interested in a factory load, I based my load off of the Hornady Precision ammo, but I prefer using Nosler brass for better performance.
Do any of you have thoughts or opinions, either positive or negative, about using the 7mm Rem Mag in any capacity? I would appreciate hearing all viewpoints. Thank you in advance.
In my opinion, the 7mm RM has an extremely high ballistic potential. As one of my friends put it, it has the ballistics of a 338 Lapua with the recoil of a 30-06. However, the biggest drawback that I see with this caliber is its relatively short barrel life.
If you are into handloading, the accuracy potential of a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag is very high. The round offers excellent ballistic coefficients and is suitable for taking down large to medium-sized games from 700 to 1000 yards, depending on the application. However, if you are using factory loads, I suggest sticking with 165 gr bullets or lighter. From my experience, the factory twist rate of 9.25 can cause stability issues with many bullets. Once you find a bullet that shoots well, pair it with a good scope, and you’ll be a happy shooter.
