How to adjust the trigger on a Winchester Model 70?

The Winchester Model 70 trigger can be adjusted by anyone familiar with basic firearm maintenance. However, it is recommended that you take your firearm to a qualified gunsmith if you are unsure of how to perform the adjustment correctly.
To adjust the trigger, you will need:
- Remove the stock from the receiver.
- Once the stock is removed, locate the two set screws on the outside of the trigger housing. Loosen these screws until they are flush with the housing, but do not remove them completely.
- Next, locate the tension screw inside the trigger housing. This screw controls how much pressure must be applied to the trigger for it to release the sear and fire.
- By turning this screw clockwise, you will increase the amount of pressure needed to fire the gun. Conversely, turning the screw counterclockwise will decrease the amount of pressure needed. It is important to note that you should make small adjustments to this screw, as too much pressure can make the trigger dangerous to use.
- Once you have finished adjusting the trigger, be sure to test it with an unloaded gun to make sure that it is working properly.
- Finally, remember to re-tighten the set screws before returning the stock to the receiver.
