Features 📌

  • 1️⃣ Magnification is one of the most important AR-15 scope features. It will determine how far away you can see, allowing the shooter to engage targets at a distance.
  • 2️⃣ Another important feature is the type of reticle.

🔎 Reticles come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be illuminated or not illuminated. For AR-15s that are used for competition shooting or home defense, an illuminated reticle might be useful since it helps you to quickly acquire your target in low-light situations.

  • 3️⃣ Eye relief is also important; this determines the distance at which you can comfortably look through the scope without getting eye strain.

🔎 A longer eye relief allows you to position your head further away from the ocular lens while still being able to see your target clearly. This means that if you’re using your AR-15 rifle for tactical purposes, you don’t have to worry about putting your face too close to the scope and being exposed to any potential danger.

  • ➡️ Finally, AR-15 scopes come with a variety of additional features, such as parallax adjustment, adjustable turrets, quick focus eyepiece, and other options that can enhance your overall experience.

What Magnification is needed for AR-15 Scope? 🎲

The AR15 is known as a mid-range rifle and the question of what magnification you need for it depends on the purpose you plan to use it for.

  • ⚡️ If you are using your AR15 for general shooting purposes such as target practice or hunting small game, then 4x to 8x magnification is usually adequate.
  • ⚡️ If you require more precision or distance shooting then 10x – 16x would be a better option.

⭕️ It’s important to keep in mind that higher magnification often comes with a decrease in field of view, so it can make it difficult to acquire and follow moving targets at longer distances. ✅ However, if quality optics and construction are one of your purchasing criteria then most scopes with higher magnifications should offer a good field of view.

🔔 It is also essential to consider the fact that AR15 rifles are not typically used for long range shooting and it’s better to stay below 12x magnification.

FAQ 🤔

How far back should a scope be mounted on an AR-15?
It depends on the shooter’s physiology and what’s comfortable for them.

⚫️ A good place to start is by mounting the scope as far back as possible while still maintaining a clear, full field of view through the optic. From there, you can experiment with different positions to find what works best for you.

What is the best AR-15 scope for long-range shooting?
If you’re planning on doing any long-range shooting with your AR-15, then you’ll need a scope with some serious magnification. We recommend going with something in the 15x-20x range for long-range shooting:

  • 👉🏼 this will allow you to see your targets clearly at extreme ranges, but you’ll still be able to acquire them quickly enough that you can get off multiple shots if necessary.

⭕️ Just remember ➔ the higher the magnification, the harder it will be to keep your weapon steady, so make sure you practice with your scope at various magnifications before heading out into the field.

What is the best AR-15 scope for a 3-gun competition?
👁‍🗨 3 gun competitions are all about speed and accuracy, so you’ll need a scope that can help you acquire targets quickly while still allowing you to see them.

We recommend going with something in the 1-4x or 2-7x range. ✅ This will give you the magnification you need to hit targets at long range, but still, allow you to acquire targets quickly enough that you can get off multiple shots in a short period.

Is red dot or scope better for AR?
Which AR-15 scope is best for you depends largely on your shooting style and needs:

  • 1️⃣ If you’re mostly using your weapon in close-quarters situations  ➡️ a red dot sight might be the way to go. They provide fast target acquisition with minimal eye relief, allowing for faster reactions when engaging targets.
  • 2️⃣ However, if you plan on taking long-range shots or hunting larger games ➡️ a traditional scope may be more suitable as it offers more precision and control over each shot.
Does the length of a scope matter?
Yes, it does. The length of a scope can affect the accuracy and range of your AR 15 rifle.

  • 🔎 A longer scope will provide you with more distance coverage and a clearer view at lower magnifications.
  • 🔎 On the other hand, a shorter scope is lighter and easier to carry around but it won’t provide you with as much reach as a longer one.

Conclusion ⏰

AR-15 Scopes are an important part of any AR 15 rifle and choosing the right one can be crucial to shooting success. There are many factors to consider when selecting a scope and this article has hopefully helped to educate and inform the reader about some of the most important ones. With so many great scopes on the market, there is sure to be one that is perfect for each shooter. Happy shopping and good luck! 😉🔥

I’m beyond excited to try out my new purchase which came with the vortex mount for only $279! I was so pleased after reading through multiple reviews and fell in love with the reticle. With that said, I don’t anticipate any dissatisfaction.

Greetings! I’m currently in the JGSDF and using a service rifle. Could this same weapon be used with a scope attached to it when deployed on military operations? Personally, I have no experience as a 5.56mm sniper rifleman but am curious if there are any potential applications for it in such an environment.

Yes, scopes can be used with the service rifle. Depending on your needs and mission profile, there are many different AR 15 scopes available that offer a range of features.
❌ However, for this endeavor to be approved, your command must give its consent

Do you know what the 30mm stands for when it reads 1-6×24 30mm?

Shannon Smith

Reply to  Lizabethaboo

🔵 The number 30mm is referring to the diameter of the main lens on the AR 15 scope. This determines how much light can be captured and ultimately affects your visibility when looking through the scope.
🔔 The larger the diameter of a lens, the better its optical performance will be and more light can pass through it. This helps you get higher-clarity images, especially in low-light situations.

yesterday, my Ruger AR-556 arrived and I’m overjoyed! Nonetheless, I have no understanding of what type of optics to equip on it. Honestly, when it comes to rifles (and the devices associated with them), I am a novice. Therefore, any advice regarding this matter would be incredibly valuable. After scouring FAQs for almost an hour now, people generally agree that Vortex offers reliable yet affordable scopes suitable for most hunting needs.
I’m not trying to become a crack shot with this thing. I just want to be able to shoot accurately up to 200 yards and use it in case of civil war/revolution (call me crazy, if you must!). So, the two options that am most likely going for are an ACOG or reflex sight–I don’t need anything as powerful as a 20x rifle scope since my needs aren’t that extreme.
I understand this is a frequently asked question, but I’m still eager to find the best value optics for my new rifle. Does anyone have any great recommendations?

I’d suggest getting either a Burris AR-332 or AR-536. Both scopes come with mounts and boast fixed magnification while remaining relatively rugged. Alternately, other good choices include Leupold Mark ARs or low-power Vortexes—all at great value!

The 18-inch FN CHF Wylde chambered AR15 shoots with remarkable accuracy from as far away as 300 yards when equipped with my buddy’s large scope. But what size of scope would be the most ideal for this rifle?

It all depends on the use. For a 3-gun competition up to 600 yards, my favorite is a 1-8x scope; while for long-range shooting out to 1000+ feet, I prefer a 4-16x or 3-18x, or 2.5-20x magnification lens. For defensive rifles that will be used at 500 yards and below, it’s just best to stick with red dot sights.

If you’re looking for something to take down “minute of man” targets, then 1-8x magnification should do the trick. I use a Shepherd Rugged model with a 5.56/223 bdc reticle on my defensive carbine – it works perfectly! If you’re aiming for more precision and need to hit even smaller targets at farther distances, then I’d suggest investing in higher magnifications. For example, I have an AR chambered in 20″, which is perfect when hunting groundhogs out to 600 yards away; so far, the Nikon M223 bdc600 3-12x44mm scope has served me well!

What size picatinny rail will the scopes fit?

Shannon Smith
Editor
Reply to  9u7ercis

🔔 AR 15 scopes can fit a variety of Picatinny rails depending on the manufacturer.
⚫️ Generally, the scopes are designed to fit standard AR-15 flat-top receivers and Picatinny-style rail systems. Some scopes will also require an adapter that allows them to fit into a Weaver-style base or rail system.

⭕️ It’s important to be aware of what type of mounting system your AR 15 rifle has before you purchase so you can select the right scope for your needs.
