Best Scope Mount For Remington 700

What is a Scope Mount? 🤔

It is a type of gun accessory designed to mount a rifle scope. This particular gun accessory makes it easy to sight your rifle accurately, and also provides extra stability when shooting at longer distances. Most mounts are made out of high-grade aluminum, but there are also varieties available in steel, carbon fiber, and other materials.

Benefits 🔥

A scope mount for Remington 700 provides several benefits when properly installed and maintained.

  • ❇️ First of all, these mounts provide increased stability and accuracy over other mounting systems. This means that your shots will be more consistent at longer distances and you won’t need to worry about vibration when firing off multiple rounds in quick succession.
  • ❇️ Additionally, they are often easier to install than other mounting options as they require fewer tools and materials to mount them securely onto your rifle.
  • ❇️ Scope mounts also provide better eye relief by bringing the scope closer to your face and allowing you a more natural aiming position. This gives you greater comfort when using large scopes or magnified optics while providing improved target acquisition speed at close-range targets.
  • ❇️ Furthermore, since most scope mounts are made with lightweight materials such as aluminum or carbon fiber, they offer superior durability without adding unnecessary weight to your firearm setup.
  • ❇️ Finally, it also offers more flexibility when it comes to mounting different types of optics onto your rifle due to its adjustable features like cantilever design or quick-release levers.

Features ⚡

The scope mount is an essential component of your rifle setup, allowing you to accurately and consistently hit your target. Here are some of the key features:

  • ☑️ Durability and Compatibility: The scope mounts are durable enough to handle the abuse your rifle will put it through, but not too bulky or heavy that it detracts from the precision and accuracy you need.
  • ☑️ Positioning: Make sure you consider how much control over positioning that mount gives you. Some mounts allow for more adjustment in terms of eye relief, while others are more limited in their adjustability.
  • ☑️ Mounting System: When choosing make sure to consider what kind of mounting system it offers.
  • 🔷 Traditional two-piece systems have been around for years and are easy to use but may not provide as secure a connection between rifle and scope as newer one-piece designs do.
  • 🔷 On the other hand, one-piece systems usually provide better stability under recoil but are often harder to install than two-piece designs since they require precise measurement before drilling holes into your gun stock or barrel to attach them securely.
  • ☑️ Clamping System: The scope mount should also feature either a quick detach mounting system or a cantilever design which allows for easier removal and installation without having to take apart all parts when switching scopes or optical components like night vision devices or lasers.
  • 🔷 Quick detach systems typically feature levers that tighten down on rings after they have been fastened onto your gun while cantilever designs allow for easier removal by simply sliding off your optic once attached rather than having to unscrew bolts each time like with traditional two-piece designs.
  • ☑️ Weight: When searching scope mount option because lighter is usually better if all other criteria are equal since this helps keep rifles balanced properly, reducing fatigue during long shooting sessions as well as keeping their overall weight down for transport purposes.

Types 🤠

When it comes to scope mount for Remington 700, there are three main types: short action, long action, and extended rail.

Types of scope mount for Remington 700

  • 🔰 A short action is designed for a rifle with a barrel length of 22” or less. It provides an overall length of 6” from the rear ring center to the rear ring center. This type of mount is ideal for shooters who prefer a more traditional setup, or those that would like to keep their gun in its original configuration.
  • 🔰 The long action is made specifically for rifles with barrels greater than 22” long. This style features an 8” overall length from the rear ring center to the rear ring center, giving shooters more flexibility when mounting optics.
  • 🔰 Finally, the extended rail is designed for long-range shooting and is perfect for those who want to accessorize their rifle with a variety of optics. This type provides an extra 2” in length from the rear ring center to the rear ring center. The extended rail also allows shooters to mount bulky optics such as night vision scopes or large-diameter tubes without compromising zero or accuracy.

How to install it? 🧑‍🔧

  • 🚨 Before you begin, make sure that you have all of the necessary tools and materials on hand. This includes your scope mount, two screws, a flat-head screwdriver, and an adjustable wrench or pliers.

Once you have everything ready to go, follow these steps:

  • 🔶 Step 1: Attach the mount base to the action of your rifle using two screws. Use the flathead screwdriver for this step. If needed use an adjustable wrench or pliers to get them tight enough for a secure fit.
  • 🔶 Step 2: Carefully insert your scope into the mounting rings ensuring that it fits snugly in place without any play. You may need to adjust the tightness of the rings slightly.
  • 🔶 Step 3: Secure the scope in place by tightening the screws with your flathead screwdriver. Ensure that you do not overtighten them as this could cause damage to the scope or mount. Make sure everything is secured and there is no play in either component before moving on to the next step.
  • 🔶 Step 4: Once all of your components are secure, attach a protective cover if desired, such as a rubber eyepiece guard or lens cap. This will keep dust and other debris away from your optics while shooting.

FAQ 🧐

Is it better to mount a scope high or low?
There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on personal preference and the type of firearm being used.

  • ⚙️ Some shooters prefer to mount their scope high, which allows for a more natural shooting position and allows them to use the iron sights if needed.
  • ⚙️ Others prefer to mount their scope low, which gives them a better cheek weld and reduces the amount of time needed to acquire their target.

I’m thinking of upgrading the factory mount that came with my Remington 700. I’m planning to buy new rings with the scope. Is it necessary for me to replace the factory bases too? Or will they be good enough? What is the difference between expensive and cheap scope bases?

Getting a one-piece Picatinny rail made of aluminum or steel can strengthen the receiver at its weakest point, though you may not notice a significant difference. If you need to make adjustments, you can opt for a one-piece picatinny base with a 20 moa cant. Otherwise, the weaver bases that are already installed should work just fine as long as they are in good condition and secured properly.

Cheap bases are usually not a great idea and can end up costing more in the long run. The best solution is to switch from a two-piece to a one-piece base, ensuring everything is lined up correctly. You don’t have to spend a lot of money for a quality base; EGW makes an excellent at an affordable price, so that could be worth looking into if you’re not happy with your current base setup.

I recently updated my 15-year-old hunting rifle with a set of NightForce base/rings set. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized this combination removed the need for separate bases and fewer parts, meaning there’s less that could come apart or break loose. I haven’t been able to shoot beyond 300 to 400 yards yet, so I’m not sure if it made a big difference in performance, but transferring from iron sight to scope was a breeze and in the past 6 months I’ve put 200 rounds through it without any trouble.

I was wondering if it would be difficult to mount a rail on my Remington 700. I watched a video and it didn’t seem too hard- but would I be making a mistake by attempting the task myself rather than employing a gunsmith to do it?

It’s very easy! You don’t need to do much when it comes to torquing the specs – just use the given specifications and you’ll be good to go. That’s my two cents on the matter, anyway.

I’m confused about how high enough for the front of the scope to clear the barrel. Need I get a one-piece mount or rings or 20 MOA base? Will I need anything else to install it other than a torque wrench and blue Loctite?

If your gun came with a one-piece base, you can use this to mount your scope. For long-distance shots, such as those beyond 1000 yards, you may want to invest in a 20 MOA base which will give you extra elevation capabilities and help increase accuracy. When mounting the scope yourself, make sure to use an inch pounds torque wrench and some bubble levels to ensure that the scope is properly aligned. Make sure not to over-torque when clamping the scope in the rings – 15-18 inch pounds is all that’s required. Avoid using any Loctite or wet lubricated torque, since these can lead to false torques and overdoing it without even knowing it.

I am looking for a 20MOA base, but not sure about the ring height or type has given the 50mm objective and the cant angle of the scope due to the base. Steel or aluminum and what height would be best?

The material doesn’t matter. Rings for your rifle will be aluminum more so you can save a bit. EGW is a great option so is Nightforce.

I’m using the 20 MOA base and medium-height rings with the adjustable comb at its maximum setting, which is comfortable for me given that my scope has a 50mm objective.
