Best AR-15 Pistol Buffer Tube

What is AR 15 Pistol Buffer Tube Kit? 🤔

It is designed for customizing a pistol-style rifle with an adjustable stock. It consists of several components including a buffer tube, receiver end plate, castle nut, and spring. The buffer tube allows users to attach a collapsible stock to the shorter version of the AR-15 rifle and use it as a pistol.

AR-15 Pistol Buffer Tube

Benefits 😍

Buffer tube kits are essential components to firearm enthusiasts, offering many benefits and advantages when properly installed.

  • 🔶 One of the primary benefits is that it allows the user to customize their AR-15 pistol setup. This includes selecting a buffer tube type, installing features such as adjustable stocks, cheek risers, or sling attachment points, and choosing accessories to enhance shooting accuracy or comfort while shooting.
  • 🔶 Additionally, they provide enhanced recoil reduction compared to traditional AR-15 setups. The buffer tube dampens movement from the bolt carrier group (BCG) during the firing cycle, reducing felt recoil for the shooter and allowing for faster follow-up shots.
  • 🔶 Finally, having a buffer tube kit installed on your firearm also makes it easier to accessorize with aftermarket parts such as rails and triggers without sacrificing any performance or reliability.

Features 🔥

📌 Buffer tube kits are an essential component of AR-style rifles and pistols. They provide the necessary structure to allow for the addition of a stock, providing stability and accuracy while shooting.

➡️ These kits typically include a tube, buffer spring, buffer, castle nut, and end plate.

  • ❇️ The tube is usually made from aluminum or polymer and has a diameter of 1.17 inches with ridges called ‘stops’ cut into it. It is designed to house the buffer and spring, allowing for easy installation and reliable operation.
  • ❇️ The buffer is usually made from steel or aluminum alloy and is designed to absorb shock from the bolt carrier group cycling back into the battery. This helps protect both the shooter and firearm from damage caused by excessive recoil or excessive force on the internal parts of the weapon.
  • ❇️ The buffer spring is designed to keep tension on the bolt carrier group, ensuring reliable operation with every shot fired. This tension keeps it in battery even during rapid-fire situations.
  • ❇️ The castle nut secures the buttstock to the receiver extension while also preventing it from coming loose over time due to recoil or wear and tear.
  • ❇️ Finally, the end plate provides additional stability between components as well as helps to secure all parts in place.

How to choose? 🔍

When shopping for a pistol buffer tube kit, there are a few important things to consider.

  • 🔷 First, you need to make sure the buffer tube is compatible with your firearm. The most popular AR-15 buffer tubes have either a mil-spec or commercial diameter and length, so it is important that you know which one you have before making a purchase.
  • 🔷 It’s also essential to check if the kit contains all the necessary components required for proper installation and function.
  • 🔷 Next, you should look at the construction of the tube itself. The material used will affect the weight and durability of the tube, so it’s important to find one that meets your needs in terms of strength and longevity.

  • 🔷 Additionally, you should look for a buffer tube with a hard anodized finish to provide additional corrosion resistance and smoother operation.
  • 🔷 Finally, consider the size of the buffer tube. It comes in a variety of lengths ranging from four inches up to nine inches, so it is important to find one that fits your desired application while also taking into account any limitations on space inside your firearm.

Installation 🧑‍🔧

👍 Installing a buffer tube is an easy, straightforward process that requires minimal tools and time.

  • 🛠️ First, you will need to remove the existing buffer tube from your rifle. To do this, unscrew the castle nut at the rear of the receiver until it can be easily removed by hand.
  • 🛠️ Next, disassemble the new buffer tube and slide the tube onto your AR-15 lower receiver. Make sure that the tube is inserted into place and that there are no gaps between the tube and the receiver.
  • 🛠️ Once everything is lined up, align the threads on the buffer tube with those on your AR-15’s lower receiver. Secure the tube in place by threading on the castle nut or lock ring and tightening it with a wrench or pliers until it’s tight.
  • 🛠️ If using staking for extra security, first use a center punch to make indentations around the edge of the castle nut before tightening to ensure that it won’t come loose under recoil from firing.
  • 🛠️ Finally, slide in your buffer and spring assembly, attach your stock or arm brace of choice, and you’re ready to go!

🚨 Remember to periodically check that all screws are tight, as loose components can cause malfunction or damage to your AR-15.

FAQ 😎

Can an AR pistol have a buffer tube?

📌 AR pistols can have a buffer tube, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • 1️⃣ The pistol must have an overall length of 26 inches or less.
  • 2️⃣ The buffer tube must be A2 style or shorter.
  • 3️⃣ You will need a special AR pistol buffer tube kit that is designed for use with AR pistols.
Are pistol and rifle buffer tubes the same?

🤨 No, pistol and rifle buffer tubes are not the same

  • 🔰 Pistol buffer tubes have a smaller diameter and are shorter in overall length than rifle buffer tubes.
  • 🔰 AR 15 pistol buffer tubes also do not have a provision for a buttstock to be attached, whereas rifle buffer tubes do.
What is a AR 15 pistol buffer tube used for?
  • ⭕ It is used in conjunction with a brace to provide support for the shooter’s forearm when firing an AR-15 pistol. It serves as the attachment point for pistol grips.
  • ⭕ Buffer tubes are also used to house the recoil spring and buffer assembly on AR-15 pistols.
How long is a buffer tube?

➡️ It typically measures about seven inches in length.

  • 🔶 AR 15s with longer barrels may need a slightly longer buffer tube to accommodate the extra length, but seven inches is generally the standard size.
Does a heavier buffer tube reduce recoil?

😉 Yes, a heavier buffer tube can reduce recoil❗

  • ✳️ A heavier buffer tube will help to slow the speed at which the bolt carrier group moves rearward upon firing and absorb some of the energy generated by the round being fired. This helps to slow down the rate of fire and reduce felt recoil.

Conclusion 😊

AR 15 pistol buffer tube kits are a great way to improve the function and accuracy of your AR pistol. In this article, we’ve looked at some of the best buffer tube kits on the market and given you a top pick. We hope that this information will help you choose the right kit for your needs and improve your shooting experience. 🤠🎯

As a first-time builder, I have a question about buffer kits. I’m wondering if the buffer tube system is important for my build. Additionally, I’m looking for recommendations for a 16″ build.

It’s important to note that carbine buffers exist as a cheaper alternative to proper H buffers, which can be more expensive due to the use of tungsten. Additionally, even with a properly sized gas port (which I believe is around .067 inches, although I would need to double-check my notes), any carbine length gas system on a 16-inch barrel will be over-gassed due to the extra 1.3 inches compared to a true M4’s 14.7-inch barrel. The M4A1’s 14.7-inch barrel utilizes an H2 buffer. Unfortunately, some companies have designed gas ports as large as .091 inches, which can result in broken hammers and trigger pins if the gun is over-gassed and under-buffered. It’s important to consider these factors when choosing components for a firearm.

I believe there might be a potential issue when installing a brace designed for a mil-spec 6-position buffer on a completely cylindrical buffer tube. A specific brace may be needed for each type of buffer tube.

It is important to note that if you try to install a pistol brace that requires a standard carbine extension on a completely cylindrical tube, you may encounter issues. As far as I am aware, there are no anti-walk tabs on cylindrical pistol braces, but I don’t see the point in mounting a brace on such a tube.

I currently have the Phase 5 Hex-2 buffer tube for my AR-15 pistol, and it looks great when paired with my upper. However, I’ve found that it may not be the best option if you plan on adding an adjustable brace. I use it with the SBM4 brace.

As a newcomer to the world of firearms, I am currently in the process of constructing a pistol. I have a question regarding the difference between a pistol buffer system and a full-size rifle’s buffer system. Specifically, I am curious about whether there are any variations in spring strength between the two systems. I am aware that the tube of a pistol buffer system lacks adjustment notches, unlike a full-size rifle’s buffer system. However, I am unsure if this is the only difference between the two systems.

➡️ In addition to the differences in adjustment notches, there are variations in diameter between the pistol buffer system and the mil-spec carbine buffer tube.
🔶 The pistol buffer typically has a diameter of 1.25″, while the mil-spec carbine tube is 1″ in diameter.
🔶 There is also a “commercial” spec carbine buffer tube with a different diameter from the other two. Despite the differing diameters, the internal dimensions are typically the same among all three types.

Generally, most pistol buffer tubes use standard carbine buffer springs unless they have a proprietary design. However, it’s important to be cautious when mixing up carbine buffer assemblies (such as those found on the M4) with rifle buffer assemblies (such as those found on the M16). In this case, you should specifically look for carbine buffer assemblies to ensure compatibility with your pistol buffer tube.
