How to adjust the trigger on a Winchester Model 70?
The Winchester Model 70 is a bolt-action sporting rifle. It has a Monte Carlo stock, a poured aluminum receiver, and a cold hammer-forged barrel. It is widely used for hunting game animals such as deer and elk.
The trigger of the Winchester Model 70 can be adjusted to your preference with just a few minutes of work. You will need a small screwdriver or Allen wrench to make the adjustment.
First, remove the stock from the gun by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place. Be careful not to lose any of the small parts or springs that may come out with the stock. Next, locate the trigger adjustment screw on the outside of the trigger housing (it will have an “R” or “L” stamped next to it).
If the trigger is too light, turn the adjustment screw to the right (clockwise) until the desired weight is achieved. If the trigger is too heavy, turn the adjustment screw to the left (counter-clockwise) until the desired weight is achieved. Once the correct setting is found, replace the stock and screws. Test the trigger by dry firing the gun a few times before loading it.
