FAQ 🤔

Do you have to brush in a ground blind?
⚡️ The answer is no, you don’t have to brush in a ground blind:

  • Ameristep ground blinds are made with Camo- laminated fabric and have ShadowGuard coating to help hide your silhouette. So as long as you set up your ground blind in an area with some natural cover, you should be well hidden.

🔔 Of course, if you want to take extra precautions ➔ you can always add some extra brush around the outside of the ground blind. This will help further break up your outline and make it even more difficult for game to spot you.

Where should a ground blind be placed?
When considering where to place your ground blind, there are a few key things to keep in mind:

  • 🔵 You want to make sure you’re placing the blind in an area where there is good cover and concealment, but you also want to make sure you have a good field of view.
  • 🔵 You don’t want to be so hidden that you can’t see the game, but you also don’t want to be so out in the open that you’re easily spotted.
  • 🔵 Another thing to consider is the wind direction. You want to make sure you’re placing the blind downwind of where the game is likely to be coming from so as not to alert them with your scent.
Is it better to wear black or camo in a ground blind?
🔢 There are a few things to consider when deciding what colors to wear while hunting from a ground blind:

  • 1️⃣ First, think about the background against which the blind will be set up.

🔹 If the blind is set up in front of dark brush or treesthen wearing black clothing can help you blend in with the background and make it harder for game to spot you.

🔸 If the blind is set up in an open area with lighter-colored vegetationthen wearing camouflage clothing can help you blend in better.

  • 2️⃣ Another thing to consider is the color of the ground blind itself.

🔹 If the ground blind is a dark color then wearing lighter-colored clothing can help you stand out less when game is looking into the blind.

🔸 If the ground blind is a light colorthen wearing dark clothing can help you blend in better.

Can you Bowhunt from a ground blind?
✔️ The answer is yes, you can definitely bow hunt from one of the ground blinds. In fact, many of customers do just that!

🔔 The ground blinds offer plenty of space for you to move around and get into the perfect position for your shot. Plus, the camouflage fabric helps you blend in with your surroundings so you can get close to your prey without being detected.

Do Ground blinds conceal scent?
☑️ Ameristep’s Odor-Free Blind Technology does a great job of concealing scent.

  • ➡️ The ODT process begins with a base layer of Scent-Lok charcoal that is activated by heat.

🔸 This base layer is laminated to the inside walls of the blind fabric.

🔸 The activated charcoal bonds with odor molecules, eliminating human scent from ever entering the blind.

  • ➡️ Ameristep takes extra steps to further reduce your scent signature.

🔸 All zippers are Scent-Lok treated and feature Quiet-Hide technology for silent closure.

🔸 Zipper pulls are also coated in Scent-Lok treatment.

  • ➡️ To further reduce noise, all interior binding is sewn with noiseless thread.

🔸 Even the ground skirt has been updated with an odor-controlling treatment.

Do Ameristep ground blinds provide good visibility?
Yes, Ameristep ground blinds provide excellent visibility:

  • 🔔 They feature an integrated flip-down window system that allows the user to adjust the amount of light coming in through the windows for maximum visibility, and some Ameristep models even come with a built-in gun port for an unobstructed view when shooting.
  • 🔔 The Ameristep ground blinds also feature shoot-through mesh on every window panel for improved concealment and a superior field of vision when hunting game.

I have been using Ameristep doghouse blinds for quite some time now, and they are the optimal choice when it comes to shooting with a gun or crossbow. However, if you’re looking to use a bow inside of one, you might need to invest in something shorter than usual so that there’s enough room for two people. In addition, I recommend testing out different height seats before purchasing since this will affect how accurately you can aim while sitting inside the window.  When shooting/filming, I tend to open the large front window wide and only slightly part the side windows for viewing.

Can you advise about how early to set up the ground blind?

📌 When setting up Ameristep Ground Blinds, it is best to do so several hours before you plan to hunt.

Once the Ameristep Ground Blind has been set up, feel free to leave it alone until hunting time approaches; trying to adjust it multiple times can cause animal disruption and scare away your potential target. However, if heavy winds occur after setup it may be necessary to adjust the Ameristep Ground Blind slightly for optimal performance.

🔎 It is important that the blind be set up in an area that doesn’t draw attention from wildlife by being out of their normal route of travel.

From my experience, it only takes a person to close it. I’ve had mine for 3 years now it takes practice but becomes easy when you know how to do it correctly.

Although I don’t love every aspect of the blind, it does have one feature that truly stands out to me – its corner windows. With those vertical windows in place, I can get a few seasons’ worths of use for such an affordable price and still be satisfied with the result. This is definitely a functional blind if you are hunting or camping in wooded areas!

I’m new to bowhunting from a ground blind and encountered an issue when practicing in the sun. I have a lighted fiber-optic sight, but my pins were still too difficult to see! Is this something you experience as well? If so, do you have any advice for improving visibility during full daylight hours?

That does not seem plausible to me. Have you tested your sight batteries? Even with budget-friendly sights, the rheostat light should make it effortless for you to discern your pins in a dark blind. It could be that the glare from having a sunlit blind rather than one in shade was overwhelming. Furthermore, opening too many windows can also increase glares.

My father is a huge fan of his Ameristep Deluxe chair blind – the original version with magnetic side windows and quieter, softer fabric. I’ve tried it out hunting myself and truly appreciate its design; however, to ensure accuracy, be sure that you bring along a shooting stick instead of attempting to rest your firearm in one of the openings.

Do you think it’d be good for ice fishing?

Does anyone own an Ameristep Caretaker hub blind? I’m having difficulty comprehending how to assemble it. It seems like the roof hub is about to snap when I try pulling it apart, even after watching many YouTube videos on this topic! Any advice would be much appreciated.

I purchased one of these just a week ago and found that it’s an effortless task to assemble. All you have to do is pull each panel in the middle until it gives a satisfying pop indicating that side has been successfully put together!

When opening the tent, I recommend starting with three walls and then popping up the roof. The fourth wall might feel a little stiffer than the rest, but unless you’re being excessively forceful, it won’t break. To close the tent, do the same process in reverse order: take down one wall, collapse the roof, and then fold up the remaining three walls. Even if you follow these instructions perfectly, you’ll probably still have some difficulty getting everything to fit properly…I always do.

Yes, Ameristep Ground Blinds can be left outside for a night or two as long as they are not exposed to wet weather or extreme temperatures. They also suggest using ground stakes and guy lines to secure the blind firmly to the ground if leaving it outside for an extended period of time.

💡 Additionally, Ameristep offers an additional rain flap that can be added for additional protection against the elements. This is especially useful if you plan on leaving your ground blind out overnight.

⭕️ However, it is better to store the blinds in a dry place when not in use.
