How to install AK Muzzle Brake? 🔧
👨🏽🔧 Installing an AK Muzzle Brake requires a few basic tools and some mechanical aptitude. 👣 We outlined the general steps to follow:
- 1️⃣ Unload your AK: Before beginning any work on your rifle, make sure it is unloaded and the magazine is removed.
- 2️⃣ Remove the existing muzzle device: If your AK already has a muzzle device attached, you will need to remove it. This may involve using a wrench or other tool to loosen the device and unscrew it from the barrel. Some devices may be pinned or welded, in which case you will need to drill out the pin or grind off the weld before removing the device.
- 3️⃣ Clean the threads: Once the old device is removed, clean the threads on the barrel to remove any debris or rust. This will help ensure a proper fit and secure attachment of the new muzzle brake.
- 4️⃣ Attach the crush washer or jam nut: Depending on the type of muzzle brake you are installing, you may need to attach a crush washer or jam nut to the threads on the barrel. This will help secure the muzzle brake in place and prevent it from loosening during use.
- 5️⃣ Install the muzzle brake: Carefully thread the muzzle brake onto the barrel, making sure it is properly aligned and snug against the crush washer or jam nut. Use a wrench or other tool to tighten the muzzle brake until it is securely in place.
- 6️⃣ Test and adjust: Once the muzzle brake is installed, test fire the rifle to ensure it is functioning properly. You may need to make adjustments to the porting or orientation of the muzzle brake to achieve optimal performance and reduce recoil as much as possible.

In your opinion, what would you consider the ultimate muzzle brake for AKs, the money can buy? Personally, I think the Lantac Dragon is the top contender based on its ability to reduce recoil and muzzle rise, as well as reviews from other users. However, I have limited experience in this area, so I’m curious to hear your thoughts.
Out of all the affordable muzzle brakes that I’ve tried, the Tapco Slotted Brake is hands down the best. It’s only around $15 and makes a significant difference in reducing recoil.
After checking out the options, it seems like the SRVV Jet brake is a solid choice. It looks like it does a great job of reducing recoil.
That looks almost the exact same as the Lantac Drakon
The PWS FSC-47, BattleComp, and Venom Antidote are all superb when it comes to muzzle brakes. Personally, I’m a fan of the FSC-47 for its awesome flash suppression capabilities. I’ve been using one for a while now and it’s been rock-solid.
I happen to be a fan of the two-chamber brake produced by Midwest Industries.
The SLR Synergy appears to be crafted with great attention to detail and fits seamlessly onto my firearm. It effectively reduces the rise of the muzzle and feels incredibly lightweight, making it virtually imperceptible. While there is some side blast concussion, it is not as intense as what you might expect from a muzzle break-only device. Unfortunately, I have yet to test how well it controls flash in low-light conditions. Nevertheless, I believe this product is excellent and does exactly what it’s designed to do.
Hello! Want to purchase it, but I wonder whether there are any laws or regulations regarding the use of AK muzzle brakes. Thanks for the answer!
🔎 The regulations regarding the use of AK muzzle brakes can vary depending on the country and state/province in which you reside.
📍 In the United States, for example, the use of muzzle brakes is generally legal unless specifically prohibited by state or federal law. ⚠️ However, it is important to note that certain states and municipalities may have regulations regarding the use of firearms and accessories, so it is important to check your local laws before using an AK muzzle brake.
The VG6 Precision is a perfect fit for my AK and shows no signs of wiggling. However, installing it required some effort as it utilizes every thread on the barrel. Fortunately, no additional tools were necessary since my AK (WASR 10) came equipped with a muzzle detent. This product functions brilliantly, has an appealing appearance, and is remarkably affordable compared to the LANTAC Dragon.
After purchasing a PSA AK 47, I also decided to give this product a try. It was incredibly easy to install, taking only around 30 seconds to screw on. During a trip to the range, I was impressed to find that the muzzle flash was reduced to nothing more than a tiny spark, resembling that of a cigarette lighter. Additionally, the recoil was cut down to less than half of what it originally was. Although I was initially skeptical about the product’s capabilities, I’m happy that I took the chance as it has turned out to be amazing. Highly recommend . Great review!
I previously used the Meridian Defense BD2 muzzle brake on my ZPAPM70 (which I have since sold), and found it to be an exceptional product.
I was after a better muzzle break for my AK than the standard slant break. After snagging the Century Arms break for under 20 bucks, I definitely noticed a difference in recoil. Even though 7.62 x 39 doesn’t kick too hard, to begin with, it now feels more like a .223. The only issue was that the point of impact moved a bit because the port directs gas upward. However, with just a few clicks in elevation on my PA scope, I was able to get it back on target in no time. Works perfectly for me)))
Can an AK muzzle brake be used with a suppressor?
📢 In general, an AK muzzle brake can be used with a suppressor, but there are some important considerations to keep in mind:
1️⃣ First, it’s important to ensure that the muzzle brake is compatible with the suppressor you want to use. Some muzzle brakes may not be able to accommodate a suppressor, or may not provide adequate clearance for the suppressor to fit properly.
2️⃣ Second, using a muzzle brake with a suppressor can increase the overall length of the firearm, which can make it more difficult to maneuver in tight spaces or transport. Additionally, the added weight of the suppressor may affect the performance of the muzzle brake, so it’s important to test the combination thoroughly before relying on it in a high-pressure situation.
3️⃣ Finally, it’s important to consider the local laws and regulations regarding the use of suppressors. In some jurisdictions, suppressors may be heavily regulated or outright illegal, so it’s important to ensure that you comply with all applicable laws and regulations before using a suppressor with your AK muzzle brake.
