Greetings from Nova Scotia! My recommendation for those interested in buying a hunting blind is to wait for a good sale and purchase two. This is the most affordable and convenient method of acquiring spare parts. I personally used my CareTaker hunting blind last year and experienced no issues throughout the season. However, I did accidentally blow out one of the main windows while shooting a Moose. Thankfully, I was able to replace it using the spare blind I had purchased. This year, even with heavy, wet snow measuring two inches, the blind did not collapse. Prior to the season, I noticed that the zipper was separating at its lowest point, so I took the time to fix it. I also applied Woods tent sealer on the upper seams and pinholes and used Woods silicone water repellent (14oz) on the upper half of the blind. Now it’s all set up and ready to use for this year’s hunting season.

The size of the windows on a hunting blind will be determined by the type of game you are hunting.
🟡 If you are hunting deer, you will want smaller windows so that the deer cannot see you.
🟡 If you are hunting birds, you will want larger windows so that you can see the birds better.
The hunting blinds that were made around 10 years ago had a triangle-shaped zipper door, and the bottom was integrated into the fabric, without any unnecessary three-zipper mechanism. The previous versions were much better than the newer models that were introduced after 2018.
From my experience, the number one essential tip for using ground blinds is to plan for a safe backstop. When shooting from an elevated position in a tree stand, it is much easier to select safe shooting directions that have proper backstops at an angle into the ground. However, when using ground blinds, it can be more challenging to properly orient them to create a safe backstop. While it is possible to shoot safely from ground blinds, it is crucial to carefully consider the direction of your shots and ensure that there is a suitable backstop in place. Unfortunately, I have witnessed too many instances of ground blinds being set up in a way that directs shots across a horizontal field with only the surrounding woods as a backstop, putting other hunters at risk of being seriously injured or killed.
As a deer hunter of 48 years, with 20-22 years spent hunting from pop-ups, hang-on, and natural brush blinds, I have to say that the information presented here is exceptional. I couldn’t add much more to what has already been explained.

Based on my experience: if you plan on shooting through the shoot-thru mesh windows of a ground blind, it’s essential to use fixed-blade broadheads. Expandables tend to deploy early when shot through a mesh window, resulting in a less accurate shot. Additionally, if you’re using fibre optic sights, keep in mind that they may not be as effective in the blacked-out interior of a ground blind. This is especially problematic if you’re using a sight where the fibre optic pins are superimposed over each other, making it difficult to differentiate between a 20-yard pin and a 30-yard pin without the aid of glowing fibre optics.
