I recently acquired the Magpul stock and I’m really pleased with it. It has a slightly shorter length of pull, making it a great fit for kids and providing a nice compact feel. Additionally, the grip angle feels much better compared to my previous stock.

I was hesitant to purchase the pro mag stock at first, but after using it, I can honestly say that it is one of the best investments I have made for my rifle. The stock feels great in my hands, and the adjustable cheek rest is a nice touch.

Around a year ago, I bought a brand new Ruger 10/22 for approximately $170 and have thoroughly enjoyed shooting it since. However, I find the synthetic camo stock it came with to be slightly too short for my liking. I’m looking for suggestions for a minimalist stock, possibly even a folding one, that could enhance the gun’s performance and comfort (such as a Butler Creek folding stock). I’m not interested in making it look like something else, just looking to make it more comfortable to shoot.

Personally, I’ve installed a Hogue thumbhole stock on my 10/22 and I’m really pleased with it.

While the Hogue overmold stock is an improvement over the factory option, it’s still somewhat too short for my preference. As of now, I’ve switched to the Magpul Hunter stock, which feels comfortable after I added the length spacers.

The Butler Creek stock I’m using works well for me, although comfort levels can vary from person to person.

Initially, I used a factory polymer stock but eventually switched to a TacSol laminate stock. However, I have now settled on the Magpul stock due to its weight, adjustable length of pull, and ergonomic design.

No, they are not interchangeable.

📢 There is a variety of Ruger 10/22 models with different specifications, so it’s important to choose a stock that is designed to fit your specific model. While many aftermarket stocks may work with most 10/22 models, certain models require specialized stocks due to differences in barrel diameter, receiver design, or other factors.

⚠️ It’s always best to check the manufacturer’s specifications and compatibility before purchasing a stock for your Ruger 10/22.

I’ve owned many different rifle stocks over the years, but the Hogue stock is hands down the best one I’ve ever used. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship are top-notch, and the weight and balance of the stock make it easy to shoot for extended periods without fatigue.

I have used several Boyd stocks, including Hogue ones with and without a thumb hole, and recently switched to a Magpul stock on one of my rifles. The Hogue with a thumb hole is comfortable, but I do wish it was longer. However, the Magpul stock is a better value overall. It can accommodate both standard and bull barrels and comes with an insert for the latter. Additionally, the stock includes spacers to adjust the length of pull, has M-Lok attachment points for a bipod, and features a comfortable grip angle.

Hi! I have a 10/22 rifle with a Kidd barrel that I’ve installed on a Magpul X22 stock. Can you advise me on how much tension in inch-pounds I should apply to the stock take-up screw to achieve optimal accuracy? Additionally, I’m wondering whether I should keep the plastic piece in place to support the barrel or remove it to allow for free-floating. Thank you!

Hello! 1️⃣ To achieve optimal accuracy with your 10/22 rifle and Kidd barrel installed on a Magpul X22 stock, it’s recommended that you apply a torque of 30 to 40-inch pounds to the stock take-up screw.

2️⃣ Regarding the plastic piece, it depends on your shooting goals.

🔹 If you want maximum accuracy, it’s best to remove the plastic piece to allow for the free-floating of the barrel.
🔸 However, if you’re more concerned with stability and consistency, you may want to keep the plastic piece in place to support the barrel. Experiment with both options to see what works best for you.
