How to adjust the trigger on a Winchester Model 70?

There are a few things you can do to adjust the trigger on your Winchester Model 70.

First, take a look at the trigger assembly and make sure that all of the parts are tight and in good working condition. If anything looks damaged or out of place, it may need to be replaced.Trigger pull is adjusted by turning the screw labeled “Trigger Pull.” Turning it clockwise will increase trigger pull weight, and counter-clockwise will reduce it. The screw is factory set for three pounds (3lbs). DO NOT exceed five pounds (5lbs). Doing so could cause damage to your gun.

If the sear needs adjustment, carefully file down the engagement surface on either side of the sear until it releases consistently at the desired weight. Be careful not to over-file, as this could damage the sear and make the gun unsafe to fire.

You may also want to try a different type of ammunition in your Winchester Model 70. Different brands and types of ammo can have different effects on trigger pull. If you’re having trouble with light primer strikes or misfires, switching to a harder primer may help. You can also try using a heavier bullet weight. This will usually create more resistance in the trigger, which can help with light primer strikes.

If you’re still having trouble after trying all of these things, you may need to take your gun to a qualified gunsmith for further diagnosis and repair.
