What are Upper Receivers made from? 🔗

♻️ Left-handed upper receivers are typically made from the same materials as right-handed, which include:

🔰 Aluminum ⇨ a lightweight and durable material that is also resistant to corrosion. It is often used for AR-15-style receivers.
🔰 Steel ⇨ a strong and durable material that is commonly used for AK-47-style receivers. It is heavier than aluminum but is also more resistant to wear and tear.
🔰 Polymer ⇨ is a lightweight and durable synthetic material. Polymer receivers are typically less expensive than aluminum or steel receivers and are often used for budget-friendly builds.

📢 In general, the choice of material will depend on factors such as the specific firearm being used, the intended use of the firearm, and the shooter’s personal preferences.

  • 2️⃣ Disassemble the firearm by separating the upper receiver from the lower receiver. This may involve removing the magazine, the bolt carrier group, and other components as necessary.
  • 3️⃣ Remove the existing upper by loosening and removing the retaining screws or pins that hold it in place.
  • 4️⃣ Install the left-handed upper receiver by aligning it with the lower receiver and inserting the retaining screws or pins. Make sure that the receiver is properly aligned and seated.
  • 5️⃣ Reinstall the bolt carrier group, charging handle, and any other components that were removed during the disassembly process.
  • 6️⃣ Test the firearm to ensure that it functions properly and that all controls and components are properly aligned and secured.

Can a left-handed upper go with any lower?
☑️ Yes, a left-handed upper can generally be used with any compatible lower receiver. ⚠️ However, it is important to ensure that the upper and lower are designed to work together and are compatible in terms of caliber, gas system, and other specifications:

  • ♻️ For example, an AR-15 left-handed upper receiver can be paired with a standard right-handed lower receiver as long as they are both designed for the same caliber and have the same style of the magazine well. ⭕️ However, some manufacturers may have proprietary designs that are only compatible with their parts, so it is always best to check the manufacturer’s specifications before making any modifications or purchases.
Is there a difference between left-handed and right-handed upper receivers?
🙌 Yes, there is a difference.

  • 🔹 Left-handed upper receivers are designed specifically for left-handed shooters.
  • 🔸 Right-handed can be used by both left and right-handed shooters, but may not be as comfortable for left-handed shooters.
Are there any disadvantages to using a left-handed upper receiver?

🔴 The main disadvantage of using a left-handed upper receiver is that it can be difficult to find compatible parts. 📢 For example, many handguards and quad rails are designed for right-handed shooters, so you may have to do some research to find one that will work well.

What are some things to look for when buying a left-handed upper receiver?
🛎 There are several things that you will want to keep in mind. Some of these factors include:

  • 💯 Compatibility – It is important to make sure that the left-handed upper receiver you are considering is compatible with the rest of your AR-15 rifle. Incompatible parts can cause serious problems, so be sure to check this before making a purchase.
  • 💎 Quality – You will also want to make sure that you are choosing a high-quality left-handed upper. There are a lot of different manufacturers out there, so be sure to do your research to find a reputable and reliable one.
  • 💰 Budget – They can range in price, so it is important to find one that fits within your budget. There is no need to overspend on this component, but you also don’t want to skimp on quality.
Does the military use left-handed rifles?
📍 The US military does not currently issue left-handed rifles to its personnel. The standard-issue rifle for the US military is the M4 carbine, which is right-handed. Left-handed versions of the M4 are not currently in use by the military.

🔎 However, there are some military units and special operations forces that may use left-handed rifles or customized versions of the M4 that are modified for left-handed shooters. These modifications may include ambidextrous controls, such as charging handles and safety selectors, to allow left-handed shooters to operate the weapon more efficiently.

Is the build kit for a left-handed stripped upper the same as for a regular, right-handed one? Or are there specific left-handed ejection port covers? I assembled a left-handed upper, but the ejection port cover has a significant gap and won’t stay closed properly. Thank you for your assistance!

📌 The build kit for a left-handed stripped upper may not be the same as the one for a regular, right-handed upper. There may be specific left-handed ejection port covers that you need to use for the left-handed upper.

📢 It is possible that the ejection port cover you installed has a gap and won’t stay closed properly because it is not the correct one for your left-handed upper.

🔔 You may want to check with the manufacturer or a firearms expert to determine the appropriate build kit and ejection port cover for your left-handed upper.

As a left-handed shooter, I am all too familiar with discrimination and the prevailing right-handed supremacy that dominates the firearm industry. But with the South Paw population growing, it’s time for this to change. We need more options for left-handed shooters, especially as our spent casings constantly bounce off our support arm. I’ve struggled with ambi options that confuse my long-established shooting habits, leading to fumbling and mistakes. That’s why I’m grateful for manufacturers like Stag Arms, who offer solid left-handed options. It’s crucial that we have these alternatives available to us, and I’m excited about the future of the left-handed firearms market.

I used to shoot right-handed, but an eye injury I sustained when I was younger resulted in scar tissue on my right eye. Despite having a corneal transplant about 8 years ago to correct the issue, I was left with blurry vision and thus had to transition to shooting left-handed. Radian uppers are top!

Using the Stag Arms upper receiver for several months now, and it has been a game-changer for me. The ejection port is perfectly placed for me as a left-handed and I haven’t experienced any issues with brass hitting me in the face

I am planning to build my own .300 Blackout CAR-15 style carbine as my first or second AR. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any complete .300 Blackout uppers that match the specific style I want. Therefore, I plan to build it from a stripped upper. I really want an A1-style upper with a left-side ejection port, but I’m not familiar with the brands that offer this option and their reputations for quality.
Although I shoot right-handed, I’m left-eye dominant, and I typically shoot non-scoped rifles with my left side. While I can tolerate brass flying across my face, I want to optimize the rifle as much as possible since I’m building it myself.
Can anyone recommend any reputable brands or provide any helpful tips? Thank you in advance!

I would recommend checking out the C7 upper. It’s very similar to the A1 upper, but with the added benefit of a brass deflector to prevent brass from hitting you in the face.
As someone who is left-eye and left-hand dominant, I’ve found that brass deflectors have been really helpful in preventing brass from being flung in my direction. So, if that’s a concern for you, I would definitely recommend considering a C7 upper for your build.

1️⃣ If you’re looking for an A1-style upper with a left-side ejection port for your .300 Blackout build, you may want to consider Aero Precision or Brownells as they both offer high-quality stripped uppers with this configuration. 2️⃣ Another option to consider is building your own upper using parts from reputable brands like BCM or Geissele.

⭕️ As a fellow left-eye dominant shooter, I understand the importance of optimizing your rifle for your dominant eye. In addition to the left-side ejection port, you may also want to consider a left-handed charging handle and ambidextrous safety selector to further enhance your shooting experience.

⚠️ When building your own upper, be sure to pay close attention to the compatibility of each component, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice from experienced builders or gunsmiths. Good luck with your build!

As a left-handed shooter who aims with my left eye, I was once advised by an instructor not to rely too heavily on left-handed guns. But it’s more comfortable for me. Instead, I opted for an ambidextrous upper receiver and now switch between shooting with my left and right hands. I find this method to be very comfortable for me and it allows me to shoot effectively regardless of the situation.

I was always hesitant to invest in an AR-15 because I knew I would have to deal with the ejection port being on the wrong side. But after discovering the Guntec upper receiver of my friend, I knew I had to give it a try. And I’m glad I did! I purchased one for myself now and highly recommend it to any left-handed shooters out there.
