I recently held a Magpul SGA stock at a shop and it felt great in my hands. However, I don’t have any interest in building a tactical shotgun. My 870 is relatively new and will mainly be used for hunting birds and deer, not for self-defense purposes. Despite this, I must say that the Magpul SGA stock looks and feels very comfortable. I’m wondering if anyone has used one on their shotgun and if they would recommend it based on their experience.
I have used it on my shotgun and I must say that it feels great in my hands. The best part about it is that it’s highly customizable, allowing me to adjust it to fit my body perfectly. The grip angle is also very comfortable, making it easy to shoot for extended periods. What I love most about this stock is the recoil pad, which is wider than most others and has some cushioning. This makes it easier to handle the recoil and reduces the likelihood of developing a sore shoulder.
I find the ergonomics of the Magpul SGA Remington 870 Stock to be great – it has a modern look without going overboard with tactical features. While the buttstock is nice, the pump is the real standout feature for me. It feels a lot better than a standard ribbed pump, and I love the way it looks. However, I wouldn’t necessarily put this stock on a hunting shotgun – I think traditional wood stocks look best on them.
I recently bought a Remington 870 super mag shotgun, and while shooting it with the original stock wasn’t too bad, I want to reduce as much recoil as possible without sacrificing the traditional look of a shotgun (no pistol grip).
In my experience, I have installed Magpul SGA stocks on several 870s and my 1301 shotgun, and I have to say that I strongly prefer them over traditional stocks for defensive purposes. All of my “serious” shotguns now wear them. While the SGA stock does come with a decent pad, it alone is not enough to reduce felt recoil. However, what the SGA stock does offer is a modified grip angle and reduced length of pull, making it easier to use the correct technique to reduce felt recoil.
Hey everyone, I’m considering getting stock for my Mossberg and I was wondering if anyone here has experience with it. I’m trying to compare the advantages of both the Magpul and the standard stock, and I’m particularly interested in knowing if there is any reduction in felt recoil with the Magpul stock.
I purchased my 590 with the Magpul furniture already on it from the factory, and I must say, I love the stock. One of the things I appreciate most about it is that I can adjust the length of the pull to be shorter than what the factory stock allows for, making it more maneuverable. With this stock, my 20″ 590 feels like it handles like an 18″. The ergonomics are great too, I’ve noticed that the grip angle is a bit steeper than the factory stock. Although I haven’t fired a 500 with the standard stock back-to-back with mine, I would assume that any difference in felt recoil wouldn’t be huge.
Personally, the grip angle is the most important factor for me when deciding between the Magpul and standard stock. I find that the Magpul grip is closer to vertical, which makes it more comfortable to shoot things on the ground, like for home defense and turkey hunting. On the other hand, the standard stock has a grip angle that is more comfortable for shooting things out of the sky, such as waterfowl and clays.
In my personal experience, the Magpul Mossberg 500 SGA Buttstock is by far the best stock I have ever used on my Mossberg. I have not come across any other stock that even comes close to its quality and performance.
