Best Ambidextrous Charging Handle

What is the AR-15 charging handle? 🤔

It is one of the most important parts of an AR-15 rifle. It is the part that allows you to pull back on the bolt and release it, chambering a round from the magazine into the firing chamber. This process has to be done before every shot is fired with a rifle.

Ambidextrous Charging Handle

Features 💡

The AR-15 charging handle is an essential component of the rifle that allows you to load a round into the chamber or clear the chamber. There are several features:

  • 💥 Construction: A quality charging handle will be made from high-strength aluminum alloy with a hard-coat anodized finish for corrosion resistance and durability.
  • 💥 Material: Not all charging handles are created equal; some are made from lighter materials such as plastic or polymer, while others are designed with more robust materials like titanium or stainless steel.
  • 💥 Design & Ergonomics: An ergonomic design is key for the comfortable manipulation of the charging handle with minimal effort when reloading or clearing a malfunctioned round.
  • 💥 Ambidextrous Features: Include features like dual latches and reversible levers so both lefties and righties can operate them with ease, and no extra modifications are required.
  • 💥 Compatibility: Make sure it is compatible with your specific rifle model before purchase; some products come in multiple sizes, so double-check the dimensions to ensure proper fitment on your gun.

Benefits 🤩

The charging handle is an essential component of the AR-15 rifle. It allows the operator to charge or chamber a round and also allows for clearing malfunctions and loading new rounds into the chamber.

  • ❇️ One of the greatest benefits is that it makes loading and unloading rounds much easier than other methods. By simply pulling back on the charging handle, one can easily load or unload a round from the chamber without needing to use additional tools or eliminate any manual labor.
  • ❇️ The design of most charging handles makes them extremely reliable and durable against wear and tear due to their construction out of aluminum or polymer materials.
  • ❇️ Many manufacturers also offer replacement parts such as springs and pins so that you can quickly repair any damage that may occur during regular use without having to replace the entire unit.
  • ❇️ Another benefit is its ambidextrous design, which allows users with both left and right-handed shooting styles to have easy access to operating their firearm safely and effectively.

Best Ambidextrous Charging Handle

How to choose? 🔍

🧐 Choosing the best AR-15 charging handle can be a daunting task. With so many options available, it is important to know what features you should look for to get the best value for your money. Here are some key factors to consider when shopping around:

  • 🟣 Durability: It should be able to withstand wear and tear from frequent use, while also being capable of handling different environmental conditions such as snow, rain, and dirt.
  • 🟣 Design and Ergonomics: An easy-to-use handle should come with an ergonomic design that fits comfortably in your hand and allows you to easily manipulate the latch. Look for handles that have a textured surface, or even rubberized grips, for added comfort and an improved grip.
  • 🟣 Compatibility: It’s important to make sure that it is compatible with your rifle. Be sure to check the specifications of your rifle before purchasing one.
  • 🟣 Price: Charging handles can range in price from under $20 up to hundreds of dollars depending on the material, design, and features they come with. It’s important to remember that while higher-priced options often come with more features, they may not be necessary for your application.

🤠 By taking into consideration these factors, you can ensure that you make the AR-15 charging handle purchase for your needs and budget. With the right handle at hand, you can take your rifle shooting game to the next level!

Replacing a charging handle 🛠️

Replacing an AR-15 charging handle is a fairly straightforward process, but it does require some basic mechanical knowledge and good eye-hand coordination. It’s important to understand what you’re doing before attempting any modifications or replacements on your rifle.

🚨 Before starting, make sure that the firearm is unloaded and that all ammunition is removed from the room. 🚨

  • ➡️ Start by separating the upper receiver from the lower receiver of your AR-15; this can be done with a few deft turns of a Phillips head screwdriver.
  • ➡️ Once separated, locate the retaining pin which holds in place the charging handle latch assembly – this will typically be located beneath the ejection port cover on top of the upper receiver.
  • ➡️ Remove this pin with a punch tool, then slide out the retainer and the charging handle latch assembly.
  • ➡️ Once the parts are removed, take the new charging handle and insert it into the receiver where the old one was located.
  • ➡️ Using a punch tool, replace the retaining pin to secure it in place.
  • ➡️ Then slide back on the retaining spring and reinstall the upper receiver onto your lower receiver by reversing steps one and two.
  • ➡️ Finally, eject any remaining loose parts from the inside of your gun before proceeding with any firing tests or further modifications.

😉 If everything is working correctly you should be able to charge your rifle again without difficulty.

  • 🔷 If you’re a lefty, you might be wondering which hand you should use to pull the charging handle on your AR-15. The good news is that it doesn’t matter – you can use either hand.
  • 🔷 However, if you’re right-handed, it might be easier to use your right hand to pull the charging handle.

🔥 Whichever hand you use, make sure that you keep your fingers away from the trigger while you’re doing it.

How does the charging handle work?

💥 The charging handle is a device located on the outside of the AR-15 that is used to charge the weapon.

✅ The charging handle is connected to the bolt carrier group and when pulled, it cycles the bolt carrier group, which loads a new round into the chamber.

What are the types of charging handles?

😀 There are two main types of charging handles: ambidextrous and non-ambidextrous.

  • ✨ Ambidextrous charging handles have latches on both sides of the handle, making them easier to operate for left-handed shooters.
  • ✨ Non-ambidextrous charging handles only have a latch on one side.

Conclusion 🙂

Charging handles are a necessary part of any AR-15. They allow you to cock the weapon and chamber a round. In this article, we have reviewed some of the top-rated AR-15 charging handles available and provided tips on how to choose the right one for your needs. We hope that this information will help you make an informed decision about which handle is best for you. 😉❤️‍🔥

I have been considering Radian Raptor Ambidextrous Charging Handle and BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle, but I am unsure if there is a better alternative that I should choose instead.

Based on my experience with both the Radian Raptor Ambidextrous Charging Handle be smoother and better priced. Whenever I come across a sale on the Raptor LT, I make sure to purchase one so that I can gradually replace the charging handles on all my builds.

In my opinion, while Radian Raptors Ambidextrous Charging Handle is nice, I question whether the price differential compared to BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle is worth it. Personally, my second choice would be the Breek Warhammer, especially for those on a budget. While I would recommend getting a Radian if you can find one on sale, I do have doubts about whether paying $100 for a Radian as opposed to $60 for a BCM is worth it.

I’m in the process of building my first AR and I’m planning to order the final parts tomorrow. As a right-handed person, I’m wondering if upgrading to an ambidextrous charging handle would provide any significant benefits for me.

If you’re asking about my intended use for the charging handle, then I would say that if I’m just using it for plinking or target shooting, an ambidextrous charging handle probably won’t make a significant difference. However, if I plan to use the rifle for activities like 3-gun shooting, shooting from awkward positions, or training for off-hand use, then an ambidextrous charging handle would be beneficial.

I enjoy using my Radian Weapons Raptor charging handle because it’s much easier to perform a press check with my right hand compared to other handles I’ve used. Plus, I have to admit, it just looks cool. While the function is important to me, I would say that 90% of my decision to use it is based on aesthetics, with only 10% being based on function.

I currently own two “entry-level” ARs. While I understand the AR platform and the level of customization available, I’m not quite sold on why upgrading the charging handle is necessary. Whenever I go to the range and shoot my 60 rounds or so, I only use the charging handle once to charge the first round. After that, I prefer to use the bolt release/catch to slam the bolt closed with the bolt open. I understand that a smoother charging handle could potentially make a difference, but I’m not entirely sure why upgrading it is so popular.

In my experience, some charging handles are specifically designed to reduce gas blowback when shooting with a suppressor. I prefer to upgrade to all-steel charging handles because they are practically indestructible and provide added durability.

In my experience, aftermarket charging handles offer improved grip on the levers, which is especially useful when wearing gloves. Some also come with gas-busting features that come in handy when shooting suppressed. Others are designed to follow the TDP (Technical Data Package) design but are larger and easier to manipulate while still offering strength for repeated mortaring. Additionally, many aftermarket charging handles are ambidextrous. There are numerous reasons to upgrade your charging handle, and it depends on whether you need or want those features. Although aesthetics may also be a factor, the main reasons for upgrading are functionality-related.

For me, upgrading the charging handle is necessary because I shoot a lot – I can shoot 60 rounds before having breakfast in the morning, I regularly do dry fire drills, and I run a suppressed weapon system. With the aftermarket charging handle, I get less gas to face and can charge it from either side with greater ease. This upgrade makes my life easier when doing dry fire drills and comes in handy when clearing malfunctions.

In my experience, I have found that if you have a riflescope mounted on your AR, the charging handle can be too narrow and difficult to manipulate underneath it. Additionally, if you need to manipulate the rifle quickly for clearing malfunctions, etc., an upgraded charging handle can provide faster and smoother operation. Another important consideration is the potential for gas issues on suppressed guns. Furthermore, for left-handed or disabled shooters, an ambidextrous charging handle can be a game changer. It’s also worth noting that in snowy or muddy conditions, or when wearing gloves, an upgraded charging handle can provide a better grip and more reliable operation. Lastly, let’s be honest, they also look pretty cool.
