Best Two Stage Trigger

What is Two Stage Trigger? 🔍

A two-stage trigger is a type of trigger mechanism used in firearms, particularly rifles, that requires two distinct stages of trigger pull before firing. The first stage of trigger pull takes up any slack or free movement in the trigger and creates a small amount of tension. The second stage requires additional pressure to be applied to the trigger to fire the gun.

Benefits 🔋

🔰 Two-stage triggers offer greater control over the trigger pull, resulting in improved accuracy.

By providing a clear break point, shooters can better anticipate when the shot will be fired, which reduces the chance of jerking the trigger and throwing off the shot.

🔰 They provide an added layer of safety by requiring a deliberate and intentional trigger pull.

The two-stage mechanism helps prevent accidental discharges, which can be especially important in high-pressure situations.

🔰 These triggers are often adjustable, which allows users to customize the trigger to their own preferences.

This results in a more comfortable and consistent shooting experience, which can lead to better performance and increased confidence.

One-stage vs Two-stage Trigger ⛓

📢 One-stage and two-stage triggers are types of triggers used in firearms that differ in the amount of pressure required to fire the weapon.

🔹 A one-stage trigger is a trigger that has a consistent trigger pull weight throughout the entire pull until the trigger breaks, at which point the firearm is discharged. In other words, the trigger requires a single, constant amount of pressure to be applied until the shot is fired.
🔸 On the other hand, a two-stage trigger is a trigger that has two stages of trigger pull: a first stage where a small amount of pressure is required to take up any slack in the trigger, and a second stage where additional pressure is needed to fire the gun. This design is intended to provide a more consistent trigger pull that can help with accuracy and precision shooting.
🔹 One-stage triggers are often used in tactical or self-defense scenarios, where a quicker and simpler trigger pull may be preferred. 🔸 Two-stage triggers are often used in precision shooting, such as in long-range shooting or in competition shooting, where a consistent trigger pull can make a significant difference in accuracy.

How to clean a Two-Stage Trigger? 💡

Cleaning a two-stage trigger can help maintain its performance and ensure its longevity. Here are the steps you can follow:

  • 1️⃣ Unload the firearm

⇢ Before doing any maintenance on a firearm, it’s important to ensure that it is unloaded and the chamber is clear. This means removing any ammunition and visually inspecting the chamber to confirm that it’s empty.

  • 2️⃣ Disassemble the trigger

⇢ Depending on the specific model of the firearm, the trigger may need to be partially or fully disassembled to be properly cleaned. Consult the manufacturer’s manual or a gunsmith for specific instructions on how to do this.

  • 3️⃣ Clean the trigger components

Use a solvent or gun cleaner to clean the trigger components thoroughly. Use a small brush or a cotton swab to clean any hard-to-reach areas. Pay close attention to the sear and the hammer, as these are the parts of the trigger that are most important for its function.

  • 4️⃣ Dry the components

⇢ Once the components have been cleaned, use a clean, dry cloth to dry them off completely. Make sure there is no residue or moisture left on the parts.

  • 5️⃣ Lubricate the trigger

⇢ After the trigger components are dry, apply a light coat of gun oil or lubricant to the parts. Be careful not to over-lubricate, as this can cause excess buildup and interfere with the trigger’s function.

  • 6️⃣ Reassemble the trigger

⇢ Once the trigger components are cleaned and lubricated, reassemble the trigger according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Test the trigger’s function before using the firearm again to ensure it’s working properly.

🎥 Watch the video to see the approximate process:

⚠️ Remember to always follow safe handling practices when working with firearms, including unloading the firearm and ensuring it is not loaded before beginning any maintenance. 🛑 If you’re not comfortable cleaning the trigger yourself, it’s always a good idea to take it to a qualified gunsmith for cleaning and maintenance.

FAQ 🤔

Do Glocks have two-stage triggers?
🛑 No, Glocks do not have two-stage triggers. Glock pistols have a single-stage trigger, which means that the trigger pull is consistent throughout the entire length of the trigger pull. This is different from a two-stage trigger, which typically has a lighter initial pull followed by a heavier pull to fire the weapon.

📢 The trigger on a Glock is designed to be consistent, reliable, and easy to use, with a trigger pull weight that is typically between 5.5 and 6.5 pounds.

Is a heavier or lighter trigger better?
The weight of a trigger is a matter of personal preference and can vary depending on the intended use of the firearm:

  • 💁‍♂️ Some people prefer a lighter trigger pull because it requires less force to fire the weapon, which can result in faster and more accurate shots.

⚠️ However, a lighter trigger can also be more prone to accidental discharge, particularly if the shooter is not properly trained in safe handling techniques.

  • 🙆 On the other hand, a heavier trigger pull can help prevent accidental discharge by requiring more deliberate and intentional trigger finger placement and pressure. This can be particularly important for firearms used in high-stress situations, such as law enforcement or military applications.
Are two-stage triggers safer?
✅ The simple answer is yes, two-stage triggers are definitely safer than single-stage triggers.

  • 1️⃣ With a two-stage trigger, you have the option of adding an extra level of safety by having a separate safety lever that you can engage when you’re not ready to fire. This means that if you accidentally bump or jar the rifle, the safety will prevent the trigger from being released and firing the gun.
  • 2️⃣ Another advantage of two-stage triggers is that they tend to be more precise than single-stage triggers. This is because there is less travel before the break point, which allows for a cleaner and more consistent release. This is especially important for competitive shooters who need every advantage they can get.
What is a two-stage trigger good for?
⭕️ A two-stage trigger is a great option for those who want a little more control over their shots.

  • ⚫️ Using it, you can take your time to line up your shot, and then squeeze the trigger to fire. This can be helpful in situations where you need to be precise, such as when shooting targets or hunting game.
What should I look for in a two-stage trigger?
When shopping for a two-stage trigger, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • 1️⃣ First, consider the pull weight.

🔹 This is the amount of force required to pull the trigger and can range from light to heavy. You’ll want to choose a trigger that has a pull weight that’s comfortable for you to use.

  • 2️⃣ Second, take a look at the reset.

🔹 This is the distance the trigger needs to be released before it can be pulled again. A shorter reset will allow you to take more shots in a shorter period of time, while a longer reset may be better for precision shooting.

  • 3️⃣ Finally, think about the material the trigger is made from.

🔹 Some materials, such as aluminum, are lightweight and durable, while others, like polymer, may be less durable but offer a lighter pull weight.

Conclusion ⏰

Thank you for reading the buyer’s guide. We have covered a lot of information, and hope that you now have a good understanding of what to look for when purchasing a two-stage trigger. We would like to remind you that the best way to find the right product for your needs is by considering your individual situation and the specific features that are important to you. My favorite brand for triggers is Triggertech! They provide excellent customer service and their triggers are built to last, as I have never encountered any issues with mine. They offer great value for their quality and the triggers have a wonderful tactile sensation. Personally, I prefer two-stage triggers.

I have a left-handed Vudoo V22 rifle and a right-handed TT Diamond 2-stage trigger. I am wondering if the trigger will still work if I remove the safety lever entirely, as this rifle will be used solely for competition and will always have a closed bolt when on the firing line.

Shannon Smith

🛑 It is not recommended to remove the safety lever on a firearm, as the safety is an important feature that helps prevent accidental discharge. Additionally, modifying a firearm in such a way can also potentially void any warranty and could potentially be illegal depending on local laws and regulations.

📢 Regarding your specific situation, while it may seem like the trigger could still function without the safety lever, it is not advisable to remove it as it is an integral part of the trigger assembly and is designed to work in conjunction with the trigger.

✅ It would be best to consult with a professional gunsmith or the manufacturer of the trigger to determine if there are any alternative solutions that would allow you to use the trigger with your left-handed rifle without compromising safety or legality.

Agree. The trigger performs exceptionally well for quick successive shots, including double and triple taps. However, when it comes to precision shooting, the slight creep is still bothersome. Nonetheless, it is still a great trigger overall.

I currently have the 3.5 Geissle trigger installed on my beloved AR15, and it’s been fantastic. However, as I finalize the remaining components for my AR10 chambered in .308 Win, I stumbled upon a 2.5lb trigger. I’m wondering if it would be a suitable choice since I’m looking for a hair trigger, but I don’t want to risk light primer strikes. Additionally, I’m curious if the pull weight of the trigger and the hammer spring’s strength have a direct correlation.

Shannon Smith
Editor

📢 When it comes to choosing a trigger for your AR10 chambered in .308 Win, it’s important to consider a few factors, including trigger pull weight and reliability. A trigger with too light of a pull weight may increase the risk of light primer strikes, which could cause misfires or malfunctions.

🔵 The 2.5lb trigger you mentioned may be suitable for your needs, but it’s important to ensure that it’s a high-quality trigger designed for use in a .308 Win AR10 platform. You should also ensure that the trigger has been properly tested and vetted by other shooters to confirm its reliability.

🔴 Regarding the correlation between trigger pull weight and hammer spring strength, there is a direct relationship between the two:
🔼 A heavier hammer spring will result in a higher trigger pull weight, 🔽 while a lighter hammer spring will result in a lighter trigger pull weight. ⚠️ However, changing the hammer spring can affect the reliability of the firearm, so it’s important to only use springs that are designed and tested for use with your specific firearm and ammunition.

🔔 Ultimately, the best approach is to research and consult with experienced shooters and gunsmiths to determine the best trigger and hammer spring combination for your specific firearm and intended use.

Currently, my top pick for a trigger is the Rise Armament 535, which has a 3.5 lb pull. I often utilize the Rise Armament Blitz trigger in my builds as well. The RA-140 is a fantastic choice for those who are looking for a more affordable option.

In the past, I was content with using mil-spec triggers. However, once I purchased a drop-in 140 trigger, I never went back to using mil-spec triggers again. I even went so far as to purchase a variety of triggers to test out in all of my ARs. Although buying these triggers can be costly, especially considering the already expensive nature of the hobby, I can undoubtedly feel and observe an improvement in my rifle’s performance.
