These are an American-made line of precision gun triggers designed to provide a consistent and reliable trigger pull. They are considered the best aftermarket triggers, renowned for their crisp break and lightweight.

Best Timney Triggers

Types 🔔

🌐 The single-stage is the most basic type of trigger, featuring a trigger pull that breaks cleanly with a crisp feel.

🌐 A two-stage item offers more control and accuracy when shooting since it has two distinct points that must be met before firing.

🌐 Specialty Triggers come with unique features such as adjustable pulls weights and overtravel stops to customize your firearm to match your shooting style or application.

How To Choose the Right Type 😵‍💫

🔰 The right type depends on the make and model of your firearm as well as what type of shooting you plan to do.

⚡ If you’re looking for quick target acquisition while hunting, then you may want to opt for a lighter pull-weight single-stage trigger.

⚡ If you’re more interested in precision accuracy when taking longer shots at targets far away from you, then a heavier pull-weight two-stage trigger would be preferable.

🔰 It’s also important to understand how each type works so that you can select one that will suit your needs best.

Installation 🛠

Tools: 📐

  • 🔧 a pair of pliers
  • 🔧 an alignment tool
  • 🔧 a trigger pull gauge
  • 🔧 thread locker.

📌To begin, use the pliers to remove your existing trigger assembly.

📌 Then, turn it over and use the alignment tool to ensure that all the holes in the trigger group line up with one another.

📌 Once you’ve double-checked this step, you can insert your Timney Trigger into place and hand-tighten it.

📌 Next, you can use the trigger pull gauge to measure how much weight is required for the trigger’s pull.

The standard for most triggers is around 3 lbs; however, triggers usually come with adjustable screw tensioners so that you can set it to whatever poundage best suits your shooting style or needs.

📌 Finally, you will want to apply a thread locker on all screws before tightening them completely with a torque wrench and/or Allen key.

This not only ensures that they stay secure during firing but also helps avoid any unexpected surprises down the line when it comes time to replace or adjust parts in your Timney Trigger assembly.

Cleaning 🧽🧼

🧪 To begin, disassemble the trigger assembly of your firearm.

🧪 Carefully remove any dust or debris from inside the trigger housing and any moving parts with a soft brush or compressed air.

🧪 You may also use a cleaning solution to help loosen any built-up residue. Be sure to use cleaning products specifically designed for firearms so as not to damage any of the components.

🧪 If there are any signs of corrosion on the metal parts of the trigger, you should apply a light coat of oil before reassembling. Use an oil specifically designed for gun maintenance and avoid using too much oil which can cause dirt build up in the future.

🧪 Once all surfaces are clean and lightly lubricated, reassemble your trigger assembly per manufacturer instructions.

🧪 Before reattaching the trigger to your firearm, check that it moves freely without sticking and showing no signs of corrosion or wear in its mechanism.

FAQ 🔔

What is to choose - Single Stage or Two Stage Trigger?

🟥 Single-stage triggers are designed for quick response times and short travel distances.

  • This makes them ideal for precision shooting and competition use.
  • They provide an immediate response as soon as the trigger is pulled, which allows for fast target acquisition and multiple shots in quick succession.
  • However, single-stage triggers can be overly sensitive and can sometimes cause accidental discharges if the user isn’t careful.

🟥 Two stage triggers give users more control over their shots due to having more travel distance before they fire off a round.

  • This adds extra safety since there’s no risk of accidental discharge if the user doesn’t pull the trigger all the way back.
  • Two-stage items are also great for hunters who want to ensure accuracy when taking long-distance shots or when hunting small games such as birds or rabbits.
  • The downside of two-stage triggers is that there’s usually a bit of a delay before the round is fired, which can make it difficult to quickly acquire targets.
Is a Timney trigger safe to carry?

I purchased the Timney competition trigger from a local market, but unfortunately, one of the set screws was missing. I reached out to Timney and without any inquiries, they promptly sent me three sets of set screws as a replacement.

Throughout my 50 years of experience, I have installed a multitude of triggers, with varying degrees of success. Despite the hype surrounding certain trigger manufacturers and their supposedly groundbreaking technologies, I have found that some perform well, while others are simply not worth the attention they receive. However, one thing that I can say with absolute certainty is that Timney delivers on its promises, consistently producing exceptional and reliable products that will not disappoint.

I have installed Timney triggers in two of my ARs and a Remington 700, and they have proven to be absolutely outstanding. For me, Timney is not only an excellent product, but also a trustworthy purchase that instills confidence. Unlike many companies that jumped on the bandwagon of the AR aftermarket product explosion, Timney has been around for a long time and is a solid and reliable company that will continue to thrive long after others have cut and run.

Is anyone aware of ways to reduce the amount of travel and strengthen reset on a Timney trigger? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Although the setscrew can be used to reduce travel, I would recommend only doing so at the edge where the trigger safety can still engage. The sear in the Timney trigger operates differently than the OEM trigger, which may give the impression of a weak reset. However, I have personally fine-tuned my trigger to minimize travel, while still maintaining safety, and have never experienced any issues with the reset. When compared to a trigger that has undergone a trigger job, the Timney Alpha Comp trigger significantly outperforms it and is truly impressive.

I disassembled my trigger and polished all of the contact points, which seemed to noticeably accelerate the reset. The only issue I have encountered with this trigger is its reset.
