  • ⌛️ Comfort: The holster should be comfortable to wear, and should not cause any irritation or discomfort while carrying your firearm.

  • ⌛️ Durability: Should be made from high-quality materials that can withstand years of wear and tear. Look for holsters made from materials such as Kydex, leather, or ballistic nylon for maximum durability.
  • ⌛️ Concealment: Some models are designed for concealed carry, with features such as low-profile designs, minimal printing, and adjustable cant angles.
  • ⌛️ Customization: These holsters are available in a wide range of designs, including pancake, paddle, and drop-leg styles. Look for a holster that is compatible with your firearm, and that can be customized to suit your needs, such as adjustable cant angles or interchangeable shells.

Benefits of OWB holsters

Using step-by-step 🤠

Using an OWB (outside-the-waistband) holster is a fairly straightforward process, but it’s important to do it correctly for your safety and the safety of those around you. Here are the basic steps for wearing it:

  • ➡️ Find a comfortable spot on your waistband or belt where the holster will fit securely. Many models have adjustable straps and clips that can be adjusted to fit your body type.
  • ➡️ Make sure the gun is entirely covered by the holster so it cannot be accessed by anyone else but you. Check carefully for any areas of the gun which might be exposed when wearing the holster.
  • ➡️ Once you are sure the gun is properly concealed, practice drawing your firearm from the holster with one hand in a fluid motion several times, until you feel comfortable using it. Remember to always point your gun in a safe direction and keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire!

📌 Keep all of your firearms safely secured when not in use. This means storing them unloaded and in a secure location.

Concealed carry mistakes that should avoid 😉

Concealed carry is a serious responsibility that requires a lot of attention to detail. Many people make mistakes that can lead to dangerous situations. Here are some common mistakes to avoid:

  • Poor holster selection – Choosing the wrong holster can be a critical mistake. An OWB holster is a great option for those who want to carry it outside the waistband. However, it’s important to choose a holster that fits your firearm properly and has a retention system that keeps your gun secure.
  • Improper training – Carrying a firearm without proper training can be dangerous. It’s important to take a concealed carry class that covers firearm safety, marksmanship, and the legal aspects of carrying a firearm.
  • Not carrying consistently – Consistency is key when it comes to concealed carry. It’s important to carry your firearm every time you leave the house, regardless of how safe you think your destination may be.
  • Printing – Printing occurs when your firearm is visible through your clothing. This can be a serious mistake, as it may reveal your concealed carry status to others. To avoid printing, it’s important to choose clothing that is loose-fitting and does not cling to your body.
  • Poor firearm maintenance – Carrying a firearm requires regular maintenance to ensure it functions properly. This includes cleaning and lubricating your firearm regularly, as well as conducting regular function checks.

📌 By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure that you are a responsible concealed carrier, ready to protect yourself and others in the event of an emergency.

It is a durable and flexible material that conforms to the wearer’s body over time, resulting in a comfortable and personalized fit. Leather holsters also tend to be more aesthetically pleasing than Kydex holsters and are often preferred by those who prioritize style.
  • 📝 On the other hand, Kydex is a thermoplastic material that is molded to fit a specific firearm model. It is lightweight, durable, and retains its shape, making it ideal for those who need a holster that can withstand heavy use and abuse. Kydex holsters also tend to be less expensive than leather holsters and are easy to maintain.

😉 Ultimately, the best material for an OWB holster will depend on factors such as the intended use, personal preference, and budget.

Is IWB or OWB better for concealed carry?

🤔 When it comes to concealed carry, both inside the waistband (IWB) and outside the waistband (OWB) holsters have their pros and cons.

  • 💠 IWB holsters are worn inside the waistband of your pants, between your body and your pants. This makes them a good choice for those who want more concealed carry, as they help to minimize printing (the visible outline of the firearm through clothing). IWB holsters also tend to be more comfortable, as the holster is held snugly against your body. However, they can take longer to draw from and can be less comfortable when sitting or driving for long periods.
  • 💠 OWB holsters are worn outside the waistband of your pants, with the holster and firearm hanging on your belt. This makes them faster and easier to draw from, and they can be more comfortable when sitting or driving. However, OWB holsters can be more difficult to conceal, as the firearm and holster can print more easily. They can also be less comfortable in certain situations, such as when wearing tight clothing or when engaging in physical activity.

➡️ When deciding between IWB and OWB for concealed carry, consider your body type, clothing choices, and the situations in which you will be carrying.

📺 More info in the video:

Is OWB more comfortable?
  • 🛟 OWB holsters are generally considered to be more comfortable for larger individuals, as they can distribute the weight of the firearm more evenly around the waist and do not press against the body as much. Additionally, OWB holsters tend to allow for a faster and smoother draw, which can be more comfortable in high-stress situations.
  • 🛟 On the other hand, IWB holsters are typically considered more comfortable for those with smaller body frames or those who prefer a tighter fit against the body. IWB holsters can also be more comfortable in situations where concealment is a top priority, as they can hug the body and prevent printing (visible outlines of the firearm through clothing).

📌 Ultimately, the comfort level of an OWB holster versus an IWB holster will depend on individual factors such as body type, clothing choices, and personal preference.

What is the safest holster position?

📝 The safest holster position is one that allows for a comfortable and secure fit, without the risk of accidental discharge or discomfort. Here are some of the safest holster positions for concealed carry:

  • 🔰 Strong side hip: This is a common holster position and is considered one of the safest for most people. It provides easy access to the gun and allows for a quick draw in case of emergency.
  • 🔰 Appendix: This position involves carrying the gun in front of the body, near the waistband. It is a popular position for many gun owners because it allows for a fast draw and a high level of control over the weapon.
  • 🔰 Small of back: This position involves carrying the gun in the center of the back, just above the waistline. While this position can be comfortable for some people, it can be difficult to draw the gun quickly and can increase the risk of spinal injury in the event of a fall.
  • 🔰 Shoulder holster: This holster position is worn over the shoulder and is popular with people who carry larger guns. It provides easy access to the weapon and is a good choice for people who need to conceal their gun under a jacket or other outerwear.

🎯 Regardless of the holster position chosen, it is important to practice safe gun handling techniques and to regularly inspect the holster for signs of wear and tear.

I currently use an IWB holster for my Sig SP2022 in 9mm, but I’m considering carrying my Ruger SP101 3″ in .357 outside the waistband during hot and humid summer days. I find it uncomfortable to have the gun pressed against my body when it’s hot outside. I’m wondering if others switch between carrying IWB and OWB depending on their mood.

I love carrying OWB and sometimes switch back and forth between OWB and IWB depending on my mood. It is more difficult to conceal with OWB since you have to get a high and tight holster and a good belt. I would recommend Kydex reinforced for all-day OWB. It is possible to carry OWB with the same clothing as you would for IWB, but it takes effort to do so.

I’m considering carrying outside the waistband (OWB) instead of inside the waistband (IWB) for concealed carry. Can anyone recommend a good OWB holster that would fit both my Glock 23 and Glock 26?

If you’re considering carrying OWB, I’d suggest trying out a functional slide holster to see if it works for you. I kept a couple of different-sized homemade versions around for 25 years to use for any new handgun.

I like the Raven Concealment Perun OWB Paddle Holster. I added the quick-mount straps to make it even better.

I’ve been carrying concealed for years, birritatingsurgery, my normal IWB carry system is irritating my incision sites. I’m considering switching to OWB carry until I heal up. However, I don’t have much experience with OWB carry for concealed carry purposes. I’m curious to hear from those who carry OWB – what locations and holster styles have worked well for you in terms of concealment?

I’ve found that G-Code OSH OWB Holster and Comp-Tac OWB Concealed Warrior Holster work well for keeping my pistol concealed under an overshirt or jacket. These holsters are my two favorites as they hold my full-size 4″ pistol snug against my body, allowing for easy concealment with a flannel or jacket. Additionally, I find both holsters to be extremely comfortable.

I’m not certain about the comfort difference between Kydex and leather OWB holsters. I think the ride height might have some influence, but ultimately, with an OWB holster, there will always be at least one layer of clothing between the holster and your body. I have only used leather in the context of shoulder rigs.

I’ve been struggling to find a comfortable IWB holster, so I usually carry a Glock 43 or S&W 442 in a pocket holster. However, I want to carry a more effective handgun, like a Glock 19 Gen 5 with an RMR, and I’m considering trying OWB concealed carry. Any advice from those who carry OWB concealed is welcome.

Based on my personal experience, I would recommend trying the Comp-Tac OWB Concealed Warrior Holster. I own it and find it to be a great option.

I used a DeSantis Speed Scabbard OWB Belt Holster for a long time for concealed carry. I could never find an IWB holster that was comfortable for me. In my experience, any OWB holster can work as long as it is tight against the body and rides at a decent height. And unless you are trying to conceal a large firearm under a tight shirt, you shouldn’t worry too much about printing. It’s not as important as most people think it is. When people see a bulge on your belt line, they usually assume it’s a phone. Plus, no one walks around staring at belt lines searching for concealed items.
