FAQ ๐Ÿค”

How low should a drop-leg holster be?
๐Ÿ“ข The ideal height of a drop-leg holster can vary depending on a few factors, such as the individual’s body type, the firearm being carried, and the intended use of the holster.

๐Ÿ”” Generally, the top of the holster should sit just above the thigh, and the bottom of the holster should be no lower than 2-3 inches above the knee. This ensures that the holster is secure and easily accessible without hindering movement or causing discomfort.

What are drop leg holsters made from?
๐Ÿ”ต Drop leg holsters can be made from a variety of materials depending on the manufacturer and intended use of the holster. ๐Ÿ“ข Some common materials used include:

  • ๐Ÿ”น Leather: a traditional material used for holsters due to its durability and classic look. โ—พ๏ธ Leather options are often lined with a soft material to protect the firearm and provide comfort to the user.
  • ๐Ÿ”น Nylon: a popular choice for drop-leg holsters because it’s lightweight, durable, and affordable. โ—พ๏ธ Nylon holsters can be reinforced with other materials to provide additional strength and support.

๐Ÿ“ข Ultimately, whether or not a drop-leg holster is comfortable depends on the individual user and the specific holster and equipment being used. โš ๏ธ It’s important to try out different holsters and configurations to find the one that best fits your needs and preferences.

Greetings everyone! I’m looking for recommendations on drop-leg holsters that are compatible with G-Code and suitable for use with the M17. I’ve already checked out Safariland, but I’m looking for other options. My main concern is finding a holster that can accommodate the M17’s light and optic attachments. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I would also suggest considering the Safariland ALS holster for its active retention system, especially if you plan on open carrying. The added security of retention is valuable, even if you’re out in the wilderness and may face a sliding fall down a steep embankment where the holster can prevent losing your firearm.

Do you have any recommendations for a drop-leg holster? I typically carry a VP9 or an FN 5.7, and while I already have a few concealed carry holsters, I’m interested in adding a drop-leg holster to my collection for hunting purposes. It’s important that the holster is both secure and quiet.

Based on my personal experience, I would recommend using the Safariland Midride holster in combination with a thigh strap and Safariland QLS system. This type of setup sits higher up on the body than a drop leg holster, while still providing a comfortable carry and drawing position. I’ve found this configuration to work really well for me.

โœ… Drop leg holsters can be safe to use if properly secured and adjusted.

โš ๏ธ It’s important to ensure that your firearm is securely holstered and that the holster is attached to your leg in a way that prevents it from bouncing or shifting while moving.

Being on the shorter side, I never really cared for drop leg holsters until I found one that could be adjusted to ride higher than the usual drop height. It now sits around where my pocket is, which I find to be a more comfortable spot (essentially between traditional drop leg and belt holster heights). The only downside is that in this position, I can only use one leg strap. However, I haven’t experienced any issues with this setup so far.
