Benefits of Drum Mag

Drum mag or Stick mag? 🤔

The answer to this question depends on what you’re searching for in a drum or stick magazine. A stick magazine typically holds fewer rounds than a drum, but it can still offer reliable feeding and dependable performance.

🔍 When choosing between these mags, there are several factors to consider: reliability, capacity, weight, cost, availability, and ergonomics.

⌛️ On the plus side, sticking magazines tend to be more convenient as they fit snugly into most handgun designs that accept detachable box magazines. Drum magazines also provide greater capacity but may require some modification to fit certain guns with tight tolerances.

⌛️ Weight is another factor to consider when choosing between them.

  • ⚡ Sticking magazines tend to be lighter, which makes them great for concealed carry or other lightweight applications.
  • ⚡ Drum magazines, on the other hand, can weigh significantly more due to their larger capacity and are best suited for competition shooting or range use.

⌛️ Cost is also a factor when deciding.

  • ⚡ Stick magazines tend to be cheaper than drums, but it depends on the brand and model you purchase. For example, some manufacturers offer higher-end sticking magazines that cost more but provide enhanced features like extended capacities or faster reloads.
  • ⚡ On the other hand, certain drum magazines may come with fewer rounds but cost less than their stick magazine counterparts.

⌛️ Availability and ergonomics are also important factors to consider when choosing a drum or stick magazine.

  • ⚡ Stick magazines tend to be easier to find in stores, while drum magazines may require some research online or special ordering through a gunsmith.
  • ⚡ Additionally, sticking magazines can often provide better access to the grip area of the gun, making them more comfortable for shooters with larger hands or longer reach.

Disassemble and maintenance 🧑‍🔧

🛠️ Disassembly and maintenance of your Glock drum magazine are essential to keeping it in optimal condition.

  • 🔷 To disassemble the mag, simply remove all rounds in the magazine and begin unscrewing the bottom plate. This will allow you to separate the body from the base plate and should be done as part of a standard cleaning routine.
  • 🔷 Once separated, remove the follower and spring and check for any dirt or debris. If there is any, clean it off with a cloth and use a gun lube to lubricate the internal parts.
  • 🔷 Reassemble your drum mag by reversing the steps above.

🛠️ When maintaining your magazine, always pay attention to how quickly and easily your rounds feed into the magazine when filling it up.

  • 🔶 If you’re having issues loading more than one round at a time, try changing out the spring or follower first as they may be worn out or damaged.
  • 🔶 It’s also important to periodically check that all of the screws are tight on the mag body since loose screws can cause malfunctions or jams in your firearm.
  • 🔶 Lastly, make sure that all of your magazines are properly stored away from moisture and dust which can compromise them over time.

FAQ 🤨

Is a 50 round drum legal?
  • 📝 The legality of a 50-round drum will depend on the specific laws and regulations of the jurisdiction in question. In the United States, for example, the regulation of firearms is primarily the responsibility of individual states, and laws can vary widely from state to state.
  • 📝 In general, there are federal laws that regulate the manufacture, sale, and possession of firearms, including provisions related to the capacity of ammunition magazines.
Can you leave a drum mag Loaded?

😉 Yes, you can leave a drum magazine loaded, but it is generally not recommended to do so for extended periods.

🚩 Drum magazines, like all magazines, are designed to be loaded and unloaded repeatedly, and leaving them loaded for extended periods can cause the springs inside to compress and weaken. This can lead to feeding issues, misfires, or even the failure of the magazine to function properly when it is needed.

  • 💡 If you do need to leave a drum magazine loaded for an extended period, it is recommended to rotate the rounds in the magazine periodically to help prevent the springs from becoming weakened. It is also important to store the magazine in a cool, dry place away from any sources of heat or moisture.
Are all Glock magazines the same?

🤔 Not all Glock magazines are the same. While many Glock magazines are designed to be compatible with multiple Glock models, there are also specific magazines that are designed for use with specific models.

  • 📌 Glock produces a wide range of magazines with varying capacities, ranging from 6 rounds for a single-stack subcompact to 33 rounds for a double-stack extended magazine. Some Glock magazines are designed for specific calibers, such as the Glock 22 magazine for .40 S&W or the Glock 17 magazine for 9mm.
Do drum magazines jam?

🤨 Like any magazine, drum magazines can jam under certain circumstances. However, with proper maintenance and use, the likelihood of a drum magazine jamming can be minimized.

  • 💣 Drum magazines can experience feeding issues if they are not loaded properly or if the ammunition is not seated correctly within the magazine. Additionally, if the magazine spring is weakened or if the magazine is damaged or worn, it may not function properly, leading to feeding issues or jams.
  • 💣 To help prevent jams with drum magazines, it is important to use high-quality, factory-produced magazines and to properly maintain them. This includes cleaning and lubricating the magazine and its components regularly, as well as inspecting the magazine for any signs of wear or damage.
How much can a Glock drum hold?

🟣 The capacity of a Glock drum magazine can vary depending on the specific model and type of magazine. Some of the most common capacities include:

  • 🔶 50-round drum magazine for Glock 9mm models;
  • 🔶 40-round drum magazine for Glock .45 ACP models;
  • 🔶 27-round drum magazine for Glock .40 S&W models;
  • 🔶 100-round drum magazine for Glock 9mm models (produced by an aftermarket company).

Conclusion 🙂

When it comes to the best Glock drum mags, there are many options available on the market today. With this guide, you should now have a better understanding of what features and qualities make up a great product when shopping for one. We hope that our reviews and tips will help you find just the right drum mag for your needs! Remember to always practice safe shooting habits no matter which type of magazine you choose. 🤠👍

I’m wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with drum magazines that reliably function without jamming up after just a few rounds. Specifically, I’m looking for options for 9mm and .40 caliber firearms. Any recommendations?

As I’m looking for my first AR9 as a reliable truck gun, I’m currently considering the FX-9 due to its affordability, but I’m also interested in Mutiny Arms for its performance. However, my main concern is whether or not I’ll be able to use my Glock drum mag with it. I’ve heard that Foxtrot Mike’s won’t work, and I’ve also been told that no AR9 on the market will accept drum mags. Can anyone provide me with some insight on this?

I’ve heard that Foxtrot Mike’s won’t accept it and that most AR9s can only take Glock 26 mags, not the larger drums meant for Glock 17. But, I’m not entirely sure where this information is coming from. Is it a matter of reliability rather than compatibility? Additionally, I’ve heard that Magpul will soon release a Glock magazine specifically designed for the AR9 platform, though it won’t work with a Glock 26.

I’m wondering if there are any reliable 9mm drum magazines out there, or is it better to just stick with the standard stick magazines? I’m open to the idea of using twin snail magazines, but I have no experience with them. What are your thoughts?

I’ve had my KCI 50RD Drum Magazine For Glock 17/19/26 for about a year now, and I’ve only put around 400 rounds through it. So far, it hasn’t jammed or malfunctioned in any way.

As for my personal experience, I’ve had good luck with Pro Mag Drum Magazine For Glock 48/43X. I own three of them and all have worked great for me. The only minor issue I’ve noticed is that the slide doesn’t always lock back after the last shot, but in terms of feeding, they’ve been flawless.
